Late night snacks

Hey folks, trying to lose a bit of weight using C25k and eating less. Keep snacking late at night and ruining it. Can anyone recommend something I could munch that won’t affect the diet too much? Thank you :)

Hello and welcome to the Weigh Loss Forum Zoot3000

If you have a look around the forum you will see that evening nibbling is a very common issue. Unfortunately, snacking of ay description is not a good idea, and is actually completely unnecessary. Here is another post of a very similar nature, you may find the responses helpful

Hey Zoot

I used to love snacking too.. Surprisingly (as it wasn't my aim) I've managed to pretty much cut it out.. For me the following worked (may not work for you but worth sharing in case)

🔹I mentally close the kitchen and don't go anywhere near it after my last meal (idea from Monday on here).

🔹I time the last part of my tea (usually some kind of light pudding - greek yoghurt etc..) to later on (for me this is 8-9ish), have a herbal tea then close the kitchen. Seems to have got rid of my snack cravings.

🔹I focus more on my 3 meals during the day - and content of those. I worked out I was snacking when still a bit hungry (cut out food like ryvita as that wasn't filling me up enough, a big salad with avocado and feta cheese more filling for me).

If you still fancy snacking - my healthier go to snacks previously were things like plain popcorn (with no salt/sugar or toppings), rice cake, carrot sticks and bit of hummous..

Good luck - you can do this 😊👍

Celery if you like it or try an apple, apple is known to suppress the appetite. Or try making a spicy veg soup to warm up in the evening. Good luck

Hi. I stopped snacking by just not buying food to snack on. I'm like the old woman who lived in the shoe... My cupboards are bare! I used to have snacks but wasn't happy with my bod so I just stopped buying them, after a while i didn't miss them. And it helps that I'm lazy and hate cooking. Sorry if this isn't very helpful!

I personally love a snack in the evening, and look forward to it everyday. I track my calories and plan for a 100-200 calorie snack depending on my meals. I make sure that it’s portioned/weighed before I start eating so it’s accounted for, and then I enjoy it. I have anything I fancy as long as it fits within my calorie range. Of course, it depends on what plan you are following as this may not work for you!

Unfortunately eating late at night didn't help me for several years and after I discovered the book The Obesity Code I've finally understood why.

Right now I'm investing in calorie counting (because of my compulsion) and intermittent fasting. I could not be happier with my results until this moment. Let me be clear: I'm not happy with my eating restrictions. I'm happy with the results generated by my eating restrictions. :D

Someone once told me: "What do you want? Be happy or be healthy?". Makes a lot of sense for me now, after so many years depending on food for emotional support.

Glad you're here with us. Let's work this out together.

Have a nice weekend.
