Can't stop eating

Hi everyone, I feel I have to post because I'm getting out of control. I literally can't stop eating or thinking about food and now I am up to 17.5 stone.

I managed to lose 2 stone before Xmas but that's gone back on and I hate myself. I'm going on a short break tomorrow and I know I'm going to have to use seat belt extension on the plane.

I am just so disgusting and hate myself. I don't know why I do it. Everyday I start afresh and by 10 today I had eaten 6 slices of toast. I feel insatiable and have been thinking about what I can eat next all day.

I have received treatment last year for binge eating disorder but I feel the last month or so has been the worst it's ever been.

Am I alone in being like this and any advice how to stop would be appreciated.

To start with Hidden , don't hate yourself and don't call yourself disgusting, all you are doing is making yourself upset and then you are going to eat more. You lost 2 stone before Christmas how did you do it? Think back and start again, what has changed to make you eat? Do you think you are eating so much because you are thinking of 'dieting' and you think that you will have to give things up for good. If that's the case, it isn't true. You can still have the things you like in moderation as part of your healthy eating plan. What ever you do has to be sustainable. I have to admit, I don't binge eat although I have had days when I seem to want everything in site, usually because I'm tired or feeling down.

Try and take time to work out what has changed in the last two months, maybe there is something that you can change or take charge of that will help with the eating. I am sure you will get more advise from people that understand your problem better than me during the evening. But what ever you do, stop beating yourself up and learn to love who you are, you are not a disgusting person. Take care.

Thank you lucigret. I have been trying to think why I felt so motivated before but really can't see there have been any significant changes in my life.

I'm hoping something finally happens to make me care more about my health than food😶

Don't hope for that... I had a major health scare last week, scared the life out of me! Don't wait for it to happen, take action now

I totally agree with lucigret . Most of us want to eat everything around us. You can lose weight, you know it is worth it! I have needed an extension seatbelt before and it is horrible. If it happens to you use it as motivation to ensure you don't need it again another time. I used to hate myself on the plane yet still but weight on during the holiday, hate myself again on the way home then forget about the embarrassment and carry on eating too much junk. You can do this, not in time for tomorrow but you can do it in time for summer!

You are not alone, take comfort in our support. I spent 30 years yo yo dieting and during that time developed a compulsive eating disorder. I've tried every diet going successfully and then failed. The one thing I've learned is that the answers are inside us. There is no magic pill or magic fix. The more questions we ask if ourselves the answers will reveal themselves. That's where change, sustainability and happiness happen. We have to have a real reason and believe that reason for everything we do for the rest of our lives. It may take a while to find your 'why' you want to lose weight (and not just what everyone else says) but once you attach your importance and meaning you stand a huge chance at sustainable success. It took me a while to fathom and I'm sure no 2 journeys are the same but I'm a healthy weight, don't diet, happier than I've ever been and eat to live not live to eat anymore. I wish you all the best. X

A lovely post Marie2068 and so true. I have also been yo-yo dieting for the past 30 odd years. I'm 54 and it has just 'clicked'. I look forward to being able to post and say 'I'm a healthy weight and happyier than I have ever been'. Well done you for your success:)

Hi marie2068. Thank you for your reply, it's good to know you have managed to overcome a compulsive eating disorder.

I really hope I can sort myself out soon and stop this self loathing and get back to healthy eating.

I have founthe support on my post overwhelming and am grateful there are people who can emphasise with my situation.

Thanks for your reply ellamidlands. I can so understand where you are coming from!

I have never had to use extension yet but was very close to it on my last flight. I swore I would lose weight after that but here I am just as big!!

Like you say hopefully I can sort myself out in time for summer.

It has a lot to do with state of mind, don't say 'hopefully' say 'I can do it', think positive, stand in front of the mirror and tell your self out loud as many times as you have to to believe it, 'I can do it' 😊

lucigret have you been watching me in the bathroom? I do exactly that then I stand in the scales and say bye to the number!

lucigret in reply toEllaMidlands

Lol, I'm off to do it now, not a very good day, not sure I will have numbers to wave good bye too this week😏

Oi, that's not the attitude! You will weigh less, you will see numbers go down!!

Well done, now I'm off to take my own advice, haven't had a very successful day today eating wise, although exercise has been good.

Enjoy your few days away and bring your mojo back ready for next week 😄

in reply tolucigret

Yeah I will make sure my mojo is with me at the airport😁

You have been restraining yourself... and then, like a pendulum, have swung back the other way and became totally unrestrained.

Try and find a middle road to start with; choose healthy foods but don't be too mean with the quantities initially. Find some distractions to occupy your mind, and maybe brave the weather to get out for a walk when you can.

If you have a craving for carbohydrates (like your toast), have a cup of tea first and see if the craving is still there. Then, just have the one slice and savour it, eat it slowly and enjoy the treat. Then, plan your next meal to include more vegetables, meat, dairy foods and fruit to fill you up.

Good luck...you have been successful before, so you can do it again.

Thank you dartmoor dumpling. That's what I keep telling myself so hopefully by next week I will get my motivation back😊

Hi Tjr, take care on holiday, try to get some relaxation in, other than eating too much, if possible that is, be kind to yourself, remember, it when on quick, and will come off quick, when you are ready and able to reduce daily consumption, I'm the say weight as you 5ft 9",with the same overeating problem try eating a little every 4 hours, whilst awake.good luck, hear from you when you come back, don't worry about the flight either, that's what the staff are there for :)

in reply toary88

Thanks ary88. I will keep you updated when I get back. Already I'm thinking about the food I can eat when I'm there but I will be walking lots so hopefully the damage won't be to bad!!

have a lovely time, hope weather kind, you deserve it, carry emergency apple ect with you with plenty of bottled water,Bye:)

Hi,

I was in such a similar situation to you. I discovered something caled the No S diet which has really helped me moderate my excessive food intake. I too have issues with binge eating in the past. But yes, its not really a diet as such, just setting yourself given times to eat and then at those times get one plate of food then try to forget about food til the next time. After a while I think my brain and stomach got used to it and now I don't really think about food between meals.

It won't work for everyone but could be worth a google if you're feeling at your wits end. You can also overlap it with this plan as a way to help you stick to your calorie allowance (which is what I'm doing).

Thank you natz994 I will have a look, will try anything at the moment.

I am a binge eater

Completely understand ur feelings

I try and drink lots and lots of water

And chew my food very well

And finally, add lots of salad to each meal

Don't top up until u finish ur salad

And when u top up, make sure u top up salad too

Hope that helps

Thanks Iwanttolose. I will give that a go. I was drinking lots of water when I managed to lose 2 stone. It's funny how you forget what works after a 4 week binge.

Hi tjr,

I realise that you're not technically a newbie, but just wanted to give you all the latest info, as a lot has changed in the year you've been away :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you :)

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news :)

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate :)

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too :)

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Among the pinned posts is one about happiness, which has helped me a lot, and which I think is key to long term loss. Have a look at it. It's the old 'if you keep eating something then something is eating you. ' You did well to lose 2 stone , and will do it again. Stick with it. One day at a time.

Rooting for you tjr

Hi tar 1504, don't be so hard on yourself! You are not alone. I have a friend who loves eating food even when she is not hungry. My advice to you is to have protein with every meal, as this will fill you up. I.e. Have an omelette for breakfast eggs are filling and good for you snack on fruit. I have almonds in between meals if I feel peckish! Or apple / banana . I used to have a sweet tooth, I loved biscuits and anything that was sweet, but I have given it up and I can not believe how much sweeter fruit tastes, it's amazing!! My cravings for the junk have gone, and I can tell you I feel more relaxed, more energy and best of all I am loosing weight!! It was hard at first, but with each day that passes it gets easier Good luck to you. And have a good holiday 😃👍
