Failure is absolutely the wrong word to use when you slip up, I think. I have used it a lot over the last 63 days, but not anymore. If I slip up I have NOT failed, because failure would be to stop my journey, give up and go back to what I was doing before...eating and drinking a lot. Perhaps something to think about on your own journey. Our own words can hurt us and set us back and sometimes derail us. Be your own positivity!
Your post is more upbeat and positive tonight. Good on you! If you are eating healthier and going to the gym, you should lose weight and tone up. I went from 12st 6lbs some years ago to 11st 2lb, through Weight Watchers then I slowed right down, until I joined a gym. I continued to lose weight until I got to 10st 7lbs. I was healthy and toned. I did have a month attending WW and the gym when I lost no weight at all. However, I had lost 5ins. I did keep the weight off for for approximately 12 years, but I have gained 16lbs over the last two years. How did this happen? I became seriously ill and was on steroids for 18 months. With exhaustion and unable to exercise and increased appetite with the steroids, I was fighting a losing battle. But hey, I am trying again! Keep going. You are doing well Wordsworth2.
Hi MMP1, Thank you for your support and comments. It seems you have done and are doing brilliantly both in the past and now. Sometimes our body throws ups curveballs, such as illness, but you are really moving forward and not letting it stop you! Well done and keep going!
Hi Crafty person. A slip is just that: a slip. We are our own worst enemies. I kept my weight off for years, only gaining due to ill health and steroids. Not my fault. All we can do is try again. Hope you continue to progress on your journey.
Yes I kept mine of for 10 years if you saw my pic from 2003, my problem was David dying very unexpectedly in 2013, so comfort eating then heart problems and stations and other drugs then asthma and steroids. So a bad few years. Oh and both shoulders operated on. And good luck to you in rest of your journey
I really feel for you. You are having a tough time. A very tough time. Put yourself first, whenever you can. Sometimes losing weight may seem trivial when we have serious issues going on, but when my partner died, I carried on at Weight Watchers and the gym. I was nearly at my goal weight. It was something to focus on. You have us here to chat to. Best wishes x
Cheers funnily enough my ME specialist ( forgot to mention that) said I need to look after myself as much as I do everyone else. And I've just completed a 10 week course and she said change in me from when she first saw me back in September last year was amazing and she was so proud of me.
And sorry to hear you lost your hubby too. And yes something to focus on helps Archie came in handy for that couldn't stay in bed feeling sorry for myself as had him to feed and walk
Oh no! ME as well! What was your course in? Thank you. It was the anniversary of Keith's death in February. He died 15 years ago at 49 years of age. He was a handsome devil. Will always miss him but so glad I knew him.
It was a 10 week course 2 hrs a week teaching us all about latest view on ME, how it effects our moods, health, sleep etc and how to cope with it. From diet ( gut so important to our health and suddenly all my intolerances made sense) to sleep and relaxation. Half way through the 2 hours we'd have a coffee break then do 15 mins Qi Gong which is SOoooo relaxing and energising at same time.
It would have been David's 69 th birthday in Feb and our 32nd anniversary of first date (13th Feb) he was standing there waiting for me with a single red rose in his hand. 6 weeks later he asked me to marry him and 6 weeks after that we got engaged!!!! . Still miss him but we had a lovely time though and plenty of great memories. He was 62 which was young enough but 49 no age.
You and I the lucky ones some people never have that love.
The course sounds amazing and so enlightening. Your David sounds so romantic. Keith was also, not with flowers but cooking me candlelit meals, playing the guitar and singing to me. I appreciate what I had, as do you. Nice to talk to you.
It was you'll hear me going on about relaxation and Qi Gong often. David was very romantic when we first met I was living in Blackpool and he was in Leeds and he'd come over every weekend even if I was working and bring me a bunch of freesias my favourite flowers. And 1st valentine's day after our 1st date he gave me a card with a rollo wrapped in tissue and said you can have my last Rollo anytime. Do you remember that ad? He cooked me the odd meal but I never got serenaded. Keith sounds lovely too.
I don't know what Qi Gong is. Enlighten me! Aw, what a lovely man. I do remember the Rolo ad. Talking to you has reminded me of what I had. When we are unwell we can forget the good times. Today I am meeting a friend. We got to know each other about forty years ago, at the same clubs/pubs. The last 18 months we have become good friends. She has her health problems and family issues. We have a little moan over a coffee, advise each other where needed, then cheer up over lunch and shopping. Have a good day 😀😀
I am glad that you are going to find a better way to describe any little excursions/hiccups etc. I am sure that you don’t use that ‘failure’ label when you mark your students’ work either 👍Maybe thinking of how you nurture them to change their habits might be a good guide for how to treat yourself on this journey 😉 You are doing well so give yourself some pats on the back 👏, not detention 😂

I'm going to use that one Tiggerr. Review, learn, plan and implement. In my case, I keep going to bed late, getting up late and feeling groggy, which can have an effect on my whole day. Even my fitbit tells me at 10.30pm, it is time to get ready for bed. I need to listen. Hope you are well Tiggerr.
Hi Tigerr, Im beginning to do learn, plan and implement, in other words 'move on.', don't go around in 'circles', by repeating behaviour which does not work out as expected/or wanted., and ending up back to where you 'started', if you get my drift.
I've done 3+ years 'hard time' here Wordsworth and there's been a number of times when I thought I had the right path and that I'd cracked the mysteries of healthy living. I'm currently going through another similar phase but trying hard to remember that I will most probably find out that there is more to learn... whether it's about how to eat and drink in better ways or about myself and how I work (or don't ).
You're talking about what you're going through and listening to yourself and feedback. I personally reckon that's the best thing you can do.
I'm on the same wavelength as you Word,and weigh in tomorrow knowing I have had over my food allowance ,not due to hunger.Its only 27 days since I started lchf,16:8 plan.And it has benefitted me greatly. I'm going to try today to not let my lapses prevent me from getting back on track,but plan for a better week,to progress to my goal of getting to 16st.Im sharing this,because besides us,many others have shared their 'lapses.'This last week I have written down the extra foods I have lapsed with,in an effort to stick to my daily allowance next week.Now for a coffee,make today's plans positive,and eat healthilybecause I have no reasonable excuses not to.Have a good day Word.
Hello Ary, love your post because you say how I feel. Right now I don’t think I’m as positive as you because I haven’t been logging what I ate, because it was far too much. But I will read your post again and try to capture some of your positivity. Trouble is when I have a coffee I want something sweet to eat. I’ve already had 2 slices gluten free bread with flora and chocolate spread. About 4.00 am I also had a Slimfast shake. All of that because I can’t sleep! I’ve got to try and stop eating when I can’t sleep. Good luck with your coming week and rest of your journey, thanks for posting so positively xx
Well, thankyou Susie, ive forced myself to write up 4 day menu, and use DD, and now it is much more straight forward, to copy from my foolscap onto DD and reinforce my approach mealwise for the day ahead. I hope you are having a better week.
Hi ary88, thank you so much for your positivity and support! It seems that your journey is a little up and down, like mine has been. But then, also like me, you refuse to let that stop you and you continue...and that shows, I think, great courage on your part. It can't be when you lapse, I know I feel down for awhile after and the temptation then is to continue...but you'll get back on and you'll be at your target weight in time! Keep going and stay strong!
Thanks Sewnknit, I am glad you're enjoying them. It's hard to write them sometimes because of time and work restraints, but mainly because I have to face myself in them. As Tiggerr said earlier, it probably is worrying that I do make the same mistakes, learn something and then make the same mistakes...but I will continue regardless. In terms of eating enough, probably not. Because I have been so tired because of excess work commitments recently, I have forgotten my lunch twice this week. I'm beginning to think that I have a memory problem...but then lack of sleep could be the problem there too!
Hello 👋 Wordsworth, your post about not calling yourself a failure is a timely one for me and helps 😊. I have been feeling a failure for the past few days as I had been eating so many carbs. But I’ve decided to log in again and try again. I’ve put on 5lbs in the last 10 days and really cheesed off with myself. But I’m back now and fingers crossed 🤞, ready to go again, although I’ve had too many carbs today already. Thanks for your positive post and have a great week. Xx

Although you've eaten too many carbs and gained a little weight, you've seen that you are doing it, reflected and have determined to get back on it with renewed vigour and a sense that you can do it...and that tells me that you will! You just have to keep believing in yourself and remembering, from now on, that you're not a failure, they are not failures, they are simply potholes in a road that will lead to a healthier life for you and a thinner waistline. It might not be a smooth journey, but the destination is always the same and as long as you keep travelling down it...you'll get there!
Hello Wordy, many thanks again for such a positive reply with more pointers. Potholes! I will remember that in future. I saw a different doctor yesterday and although she didn’t say give up the LCHF diet she did ask the dietician if she would see me straightaway without an appointment. She readily agree and was an enormous help. She emphasised the importance of keeping fat content low as possible so that’s the LCHF out. I’d already decided to go back to calorie counting and she agreed that 1500 cals a day was a good starting point. She also said it was important not to cut out all treats entirely as it wasn’t sustainable so gave me a diet sheet that gives the calorie count of various treats so I can have my biscuit with my coffee! Sorry to make this all about me but I was so pleased with the help I received all round yesterday on here and then down the docs. I was also given sound advice from Hector and co yesterday while counting calories to also keep an eye on carb content and try to aim for 50-100 carbs. So with everyone’s help and advice I’m ready to go again. My very best wishes to you for all your positivity, you are a Godsend to me, bless your heart 💓.
