Suffering from kidney renal colic this week and now have scans and blood tests booked. Gained half pound due to drinking loads of water over the weekend. Diet hasn’t been a focus as I’ve struggled with pain. I’m sure all the fluid is the half pound weight increase this week in week 3. Anyone managed to lose weight with kidney stones pain? It will probably help to lose weight anyway.

Hello Mel I don’t have any suggestions but just wanted to commiserate with you over your pain and renal colic. I well remember my dad having an attack years ago and he was in agonising pain. I never forgot it and they took him to hospital. So Mel here’s wishing you all the best for pain free time and hope you soon are back to better times. Take care of yourself
That sounds painful. Kidney stones might be related to thyroid problems. It might be related to diet, though Uk does not seem to see a connection. The two types of kidney stones are either oxelates or calcium.
From personal experience know that too high calcium in the diet from milk and cheese, and too hard water, may increase the level of calcium in the blood. Foods high in oxalates are- beer, beans, beets, berries, chocolate, coffee ,cranberries, dark green vegetables spinach nuts oranges rhubarb soda cola pepsi or coco black teas, soy beans, soy milk, wheat bran, parsley, leeks, olives, celery, sweet potatoes, green pepper cereals with bran ,maize. Renal failure can be caused by too high oxalates in blood,

Other stone types, are cystine, struvite, and uric acid.
If the stones are in the ureters- tubes to bladder- the water is slow to pass through the system.
The average diet should not have more than 150mg a day .

shows a kidney stone diet. Advice is to drink water to help, but may be filtered water with a cartridge eg maxtra will help clear excess calcium. Diet change to cut down oxalates and calcium may help according to the articles on these websites. Hope tests are helpful. My daughter had these but she has a hypothyroid condition which can be linked with these stones. She still does not drink enough water.
