I’m not a breakfast and never have been. And I know breakfast is essential to weight loss and will stop cravings. But I have no idea what to have. Any ideas? So I know what to buy when I shop tomorrow

Breakfast isn’t essential LuiiLuii . . . Many of us eat just twice a day. What is important is to eat enough and not get too hungry. I do like a decent Lunch, often a cooked brunch type meal. 😊

To me, breakfast is essential. I eat around 3-400 calories for breakfast and it usually consists of skyr with almonds and a bit of fruit, oatmeal porridge with cinnamon and apple and a bit of butter, or eggs in the form of an omelette with a bit of cheese and rye bread.

There are plenty of breakfast ideas.

I most of the time eat savoury with raw vegetables.

You mentioned omelette. Yes, egg is a powerhouse.

Do you like pâtés? Liver, aubergine, houmous, etc.?

You may find that the key to the successful breakfast is the little preparation time, especially on week days. Meaning a quick preparation or preparing the day before.

Breakfast is usually less complex to prepare, and packed with (macro)nutrients.

Both sound really good. I also like cooked breakfast. I don't eat much meat products for breakfast, though.

Eggs. So many different things you can do with eggs, and they're mostly quick to prepare (or can be prepared in advance and eaten cold).

And coffee :)

I used to think I "wasn't a breakfast person" and I skipped it for years, but it turns out you can practice liking breakfast. It was an essential part of my weight loss journey. However it is not a part of my weight maintenance. You lose weight by eating the right things and dumping the wrong things, and when you do that, your appetite will change. Initially, you'll need breakfast. But as you start eating properly, you'll find that you can go long periods without feeling hungry. And you'll eventually find that you don't really want breakfast. But that's a way down the line!

If you miss your morning coffee jumpstart, try adding a dash of cream instead. Depending on how lactose-intolerant you are, you might be OK with it (cream contains a lot less lactose than milk, which is why it's acceptable for weightloss).

Look at the breakfast recipes on Our Path. ourpath.co.uk/guides/catego.... They are lovely and filling. Some take a bit of prep others not so much. I have to say when first I tried them I thought I won’t feel full until lunch but I do. They include full fat yogurt and butter in some cases I was wary of this but because I feel full until lunch I don’t snack and include nuts, vegetables, fruit and high fibre cereal foods. I’ve been following their recipes and advice for 4 weeks now and my clothes are looser. I have lost a number of pounds too but that’s not the object I want to feel healthier and not eat sugar laden refined foods . And it is working.

Hi, I could not survive without breakfast. But since I cut out carbs and processed food I never have breakfast as such more like brunch. Like you I thought it essential and brought my children up to always eat breakfast as it’s the most important meal of the day.

I have eggs, mushrooms, spinach and maybe one or twice a week bacon. This fills me until my evening meal. I never feel hungry and I have maintained my weight for over a year. I used to be obsessed with calories but not anymore.

Not many people go for keto long term as it's very restrictive. It can be useful to do it for a couple of weeks and then move into a more relaxed low carb high fat pattern, which gives you much more choice.

There are some good pictures here, about a third of the way down, showing a keto plate and then two lchf plates, with different amounts of carbs dietdoctor.com/low-carb I think you'll see they look like very 'normal' meals

Hi. For me brekkie is essential as Im starving when I wake up. Since starting to eat lower carb I have started with greek yogurt, plus nuts and berries. I Never! though I would like this but I do and its so simple and filling. Also zero hassle to make 😉

And yes there are alternatives out there but they’re expensive which living on a budget I can’t make room for, however I did try a few cheeses, milk and yoghurt and I don’t like the taste

I love my breakfast best of the day - often porridge with yogurt, fruit and cinnamon on top. But if I know I will be in a rush in the morning then I do overnight oats so it is all ready - I use oats, coconut yogurt, sunflower, flax and pumpkin seeds, blueberries or my fruit compote with a sprinkling of cinnamon on top.

Occasionally poached eggs on seeded toast for a change!😁

Overnights oats sounds nice, I’ll give that a try as well as the poached eggs on seeded toast. I live seeded bread. So delish. Thank you for your suggestion 😀

I used to always eat breakfast, I would be seriously hungry as soon as I woke up. I'd eat something to hand while making toast, cereal after my toast (wrong way round I know, but that's how I liked it!) about half hour to an hour I would have more toast. I could get through half a loaf a day easy! Plus half a pound of butter plus, jam, peanut butter, cheese or anything else. Once I realised I really needed to loose weight (clothes shopping, and then my daughter announced she's getting married), I joined here and decided to try lchf. Yes I had to ditch the bread, but there was plenty of other choices. I made several mistakes along the way, but, now I seldom eat breakfast (drives my husband nuts!) but then have a large brunch about 11.30 (if I remember!) Then large evening meal about 7.00 and that's it until the next day! I have now lost 1 and a half stone, and, I have a nice dress for the wedding!

Totally mash a banana on a plate, sprinkle it with a teaspoon of 'STEVIA' and mix it all into a bowl of porridge.

Your porridge will taste of sweet banana.

STEVIA is a plant extract and has no calories.

It's quite expensive but you don't need much of it, I use 'Pure Via Stevia Leaf Sweet Granules' 250g from sainsbury £4.25

I keep it in a clean dry jam jar with a lid, I've had the same pack for months.

Diet doctor is okay for good information but I personally don’t eat the meals they do. Have a look at the LCHF forum on here, there is lots of information and others who like me which have made LCHF as our normal everyday way we eat. I don’t see it as a diet. I don’t eat carbs and don’t eat processed foods or as little as possible. I always feel full and satisfied. I don’t count calories either. I found it easy once I got into it, I made it difficult at first. I was reducing calories too much and wasn’t losing weight. Now I just eat food I enjoy and if I do over indulge when socialising, I just have a few days of being mindful of what I’m eating.

Keto all day is good if you are ill with cancer, acute diabetes etc., but a traditional cooked breakfast can be keto.

Most of us have to plan eating around work, family, scheduled meals etc, but eating breakfast and not eating in the evening is better.

I eat moderate-carb, including grain-free (buckwheat) muesli.

Carbohydrate spikes insulin, which reduces blood glucose and makes you hungry - but a carb (late) breakfast makes me hungry for lunch.
