I am trying to find healthy snacks or smaller meals. I am ok with main meals but when it comes to a teatime snack for instance I tend to rely too much on bread. I do not eat pork products. Anyone got any suggestions? I have got about 1 and half stones left to lose but eating too much bread mean I don't make progress. Would be pleased to have any ideas.

Hello and welcome back Creators 😊
I’ve not seen you about on the forum, I hope you have been reading posts and finding it useful?
For advice about food and meal planning then I recommend the Daily Diary (in Events on the forum Homepage healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...
In general, the current advice is to avoid snacking if possible. It’s not necessary in a balanced diet, a healthy adult can go 5-6 hours between meals and it’s actually better for stabilising your blood sugar as well as helping weight loss.
Sure! I weigh out my snacks to the recommended portion size as I’m a calorie counter so suggest you weigh too for anything below that is like a “how much do I eat type snack”. Some things I have:
- Almonds (weighed)
- Babybel/small piece of cheese (weighed)
- rough oatcakes (sometimes with cheese)
- cottage cheese
- yoghurt / fruit
- half avocado
- hummus / lentil / quinoa crisps
- granola bites (from a health store, so less added sugars)
Thanks for fantastic ideas I will try them all. Seems so obvious the way you say it.
Hi, just seconding Indigo's reply that, as you build up your three healthy meals and get all your calories into them, you won't need to eat between meals. You may find this interesting dailymail.co.uk/health/arti...
But also! Some people do like to / need to snack as it helps make their weight loss sustainable for them. For example, I often can’t eat very much at all in one sitting so I end up having to either snack my “main meals” across the day or just having small meals and then snacks.
This works for me also as I LIKE to snack on a variety of foods, which makes it a more sustainable plan for me. But yes you can pack more calorie dense foods into your main meals if you don’t want to have to snack all the time too. Lots of options for everyone
Have you had a look in Lythams Larder, I put an Antipasti in there, makes an excellent snack! Would you like to join us today at our weigh in? Here's the link, hope to see you there! x
