This could defeat me

Have been trying so hard to lose weight and today I did some research. Turns out I might have to give up PASTA! The absolute love of my life ♥️ I need to do it and give up my soul food but it seems physically impossible to give up a staple in my diet. Can anyone help me on what substitutes for pasta I can take that aren't vegetable related. NO SPIRALISED VEG!!

I'm afraid I can't relate, Fossicho. I gave up pasta 4 years ago and haven't looked back. I find extra veg to be tastier and less bloating and wouldn't dream of going back to eating it, or with replacing it with another carb.

What is the reason for not eating it any more?

Once you get beyond the initial pain, you'll find it a doddle and those veggies will be a lot more appealing :)

I know how you feel, Fossicho !

I didn't give it up altogether, but I did cut my portion size in half.

What is wrong with spiralized veg, exactly? OK it's not pasta, but it IS very good for you ... lightly steamed courgette spirals can be v nice with the right kind of sauce. You're not allergic to vegetables, are you?

I also make parmigiana-type bakes with butternut squash slices, or courgette slices, or aubergine ... sometimes I pretend it's lasagne, I alternate the slices with meat sauce with a beaten mixture of ricotta cheese and milk, instead of white sauce which contains flour and butter.

Someone else on the forum has her sugo, curry etc without the carbs (pasta, rice) - just eats it with a spoon.

Good luck.

Why not try buckwheat spirals?

Hi Fossicho

Have given it up entirely, just like that, cold turkey. I was finding I was getting hungry too soon after a plate of pasta. I know now that I'm more likely be satisfied with meat, cheese or eggs plus veg.

Now when I go out and want to eat Italian food, I get them to serve me Melanzane alla Parmigiana as a main course with a salad alongside, and it's absolutely delicious, low carb, filling, and satisfies all the requirements for Italian flavours.

Have lost a stone since late April entirely without trying, just by lowering my carbs.

I love pasta dishes but I only really eat it a couple of times a month now as a treat - makes it even more special and enjoyable 😊
