Which I know people say this is slow and steady and a good thing however I feel it’s going to be a long time to reach my goal ! How are others doing any good tips ? Xx

Hi 2lb a week is good going, well done ! Would you like to join our Summer Challenge? Here is the link to tell you all about it, hope to see you there!
From where I started I had over 100lb to lose. I’ve gone on since last summer to lose what is now 48 of those. Mainly through calorie deficit and increasing activity. Tracking and counting the calories is what kept me in check. If I needed something I accounted for it as part of my daily allowance.
I have a target and a reward for when I get there and that’s what drives me.
Set yourself a target and aim for that. Eg I was 22 stone. I was going to Paris to Disney. I didn’t want to be that guy that didn’t fit in the seats when I was with my 4 year old daughter. I lost 30 up to that point in a matter of months and continued on this year albeit a little slower but I do have my targets now for this year.
To add to this. When I say in increased activity. I did something everyday for 60 days straight. The old me would never have done this. I put the Xbox away and got out more when I could. Between spinning and walking the weight dropped off me and I was buying clothes in the non big people section for the first time in years
I set myself a calorie total of 1700 per day. Sometimes this was even too much. I just made sure I had enough food in me to fill me. And kept well away from the takeaway places.
Hi! You can do it! I find thinking of it as a long term journey really helps me, so if I have a slow week of not losing much, or a blip going back up, I can reassure myself that the overall progress is down in the right direction.
When I started end of this February i made a plan to lose 82lbs by next February. I joined this forum for support and motivation, downloaded an app called My Weight to track my weigh ins, and downloaded an app called Lose It! to track what I am eating. I also started the NHS Couch to 5k programme to get me moving. From struggling to run 60 seconds in February, I am now running for 40 minutes solid no stops. A miracle for an obese mid-forties so-and-so like me 😮
So far, since mid February I’ve lost 21lbs.
To start with I monitored my calories intake and reduced it. Mixed with the activity it helped kicked things off.
After a month I found weight loss slowing up, and feeling tired- helpful people here suggested I might have lowered my daily calories too much (1500) and stalled my metabolism. So after researching LCHF and Fasting I decided to increase my calories (!) and try a different approach with lowering carbohydrates. Weight loss has picked up again and I’m full of energy.
2lbs weight loss a week is a really sustainable goal I think, if you have lots to lose. Some weeks it’ll be less, or none, and some weeks more. Just try to remember that every little bit you lose along the way is helping you to reach a healthier you.
I really hope you find this forum as helpful and supportive as I have. The Weekly Weigh-in groups are great for keeping yourself on track and being there to support others with similar goals.
Yeah I try and look at it as a healthy life style change rather than a diet , I know that any loss is a good loss I wish I could do a bit more so I can then notice a change and it will keep be motivated lol
I should really set my self goals as previously said before in the post above to try and work towards something and focus on something instead of the larger picture .
That’s really great that you have lost 21lb you must be so chuffed
Is there a certain app you used to find out how many calories you should be eating ? For you body weight !
I will have to have a look at the other apps and see about tracking my food etc on a daily basis xx
The risk with not eating enough is that it slows your metabolism. It starts off well but then you can grind to a halt. It's perfectly possible - and enjoyable - to lose weight while eating well, so why anyone would want to suffer when they don't need to, I've no idea
Hello Peachscnapps yes I had over 100 lbs to loss. I was 20 st. When I came here I started at 16 st 2 lbs. Now I am 13 st 2 lbs. losing 94 lbs. to date. I think I still have 21 lbs left to go.
2 lbs a week is a good start. It will help if you write down your menu each day. This will help the Daily Diary is on the right hand side of your computer. Some weeks you will lose more sometimes you will lose less keep it up. And join in with the forum you will get plenty of encouragement here and no criticism. 😊😊
That’s really good that you have lost 84lbs that’s amazing I’m so impressed with all you guys that’s huge amounts of weight loss go you ! Did it take you long ? Any particular diet tips ?
I’m 17-4. I’m 53 and I’ve lost 6 stone four times in my life...... I’m very low and questioning if I can do it again.... it’s hard carrying all this weight around, and I’m just sick of it all. .....
I am a part of the weigh in Sunday group and I will be marking my 100lb loss today. As for it taking a long time, yes it does take time but vitally important is mini goals. So say the first half stone, then stone, or under this weight stone bracket like say leaving the 13s or whatever. Never a good idea to think of the ultimate goal instead break it up and it makes it so much easier. If I had thought I need to lose as in my case around 120lb and I focused on that only, I can imagine my motivation would have dropped.
Now will it take time? Yes when your losing that amount of weight it does take time I started on May 1st last year so you can get the picture in my case how long it took. But it is healthier to take it off slowly but steadily which to me is what your doing. I also found and this was for me only that not putting time limits helped but everyone is different. For sure I think mini goals are the way to go for everyone! Good luck.
Hi PeachSnapps. Not quite 100lbs but I had 86lbs to lose to reach the upper half of my healthy BMI range. So far I have lost 58lbs with 28lbs left to go.
This is all huge numbers and sounds great now but back when I started I would have freaked looking at the bigger picture! I found breaking it down into one stone goals was best. Just aim to lose 14lbs!! The health benefits of that are great. When you reach that target you will can evaluate how well you did and if you need to change anything. And I am sure you will be eager to start the next one stone loss challenge!
Personally for me I found exercise key alongside calorie counting. Like Greenman81 said, putting down the Xbox, turning off the TV or computer of whatever and moving is a great plus! I only watch TV with my planned meals or whilst walking on my treadmill now. I used to eat so much due to TV!!
I joined the couch 2 5k and it has given me a passion for exercise!
I use the link BridgeGirl gave you to calculate my daily calories. As I am active (between 400-500 minutes a week) I can eat more than if I sat on my bum all day! And sitting around makes you want more food!! Whereas exercise uses up your time and suppresses your hunger!
Anyways, I use the calculater to get my weekly amount then allow myself extra on weekends (1830 calories). The rest I divide between five for weekdays (1430 calories) as weekdays I am working so is easier to be busy and not need food! That's using the lowest end of the daily calorie scale but that means if I slip up and have the odd biscuit at work (which I try hard not to!) It's ok. Or when cooking a meal you can't be EXACT with measurements esp when dividing up with family so yes, maybe my I record my meal as 549 calories but it could be 600 on my plate for all I know so again I can "afford" the extra calories as if I was using the higher end of my calories I would be have like another 1500 calories in the week!
Anyways hope that makes sense! I probably diverted a bit from topic sorry! To reiterate... Start small steps and small goals! The changes are for life anyways so don't get too hung up on time scales!
Well done that’s great you have managed to loose 58lbs
Like many people have said On here I think I will look at stone by stone and see what happens
So I have just looked on the link that BridgeGirl put on and I have calculated and it tell me that I can have 1979 - 2545 kcal so working out what people have how many calories would be an idea amount to eat out of this range ?
Thankyou for your comment really appreciate the help and support xx
Me personally would aim for the lowest in order to try to lose 2lb a week. 1979 x 7 days is 13,853 calories a week. So if, like me, you have days you eat more (ie weekends maybe) give yourself like 2400 on those days and divide the remainder by five for weekdays. If your able try to do a brisk walk for half hour each day. You will see the weight fly off! Eat what you like but up to your calorie limit! I still eat chocolate and crisps and Jaffa cakes haha! Gradually you will naturally want lower calorie foods you like so you can eat more over the day instead of, say, wasting 500 calories on one item!
Don't forget as your weight goes down you need to recheck your calorie limit. I readjust every 7 pound loss.
Fab thankyou so I will stick to the 1979 mark and then I will hopefully start seeing results and like you say with the exercise I should start seeing good results fingers crossed ! Xx
Set yourself small but a achievable goals, like getting into the 16's, then set another small goal. Are you a member of any weigh ins? So much positive support about 😊
Hello. I was a member until I hit the skids..... I did carry on for a while but felt too ashamed to be coming on every week knowing I’d put more weight on....I am desperately trying to focus on losing the next five pounds which would put me in the 16 stone something.....I’m fighting with an episode of depression too atm which is really not helping me along....... I’m really glad to have made contact with peachschnapps though, like me lost and regained a few times and then some.....
Maybe rather than focusing on the weight loss, join Lythams summer challenge, which doesn't focus all around weight. For example you could pledge to take a little step forwards each week? Step onecould be you came on HU again, step 2 could be to try and cut out one snack a day? Step 3 to do something nice for yourself?, ...... Something along that line? Once you a feeling a little better, you could adjust the steps to focus on healthy eating?
Not sure if something like that would be worth a try?
I think that’s a really good idea.... I really like the little steps bit, I can at least get a sense of achievement..... I’ve noticed I’ve already started coming back on here, so hopefully things are heading the right way very slowly...
It seems scary to think with one or two pounds I’ll be here ages and I have a fear that I’ll never have a baby I will miss my time what with being 32 already I’m running out !
But I guess I just have to remain hopeful
Has anyone had any loose skin from loosing a big amount of weight or because it was slow it was better ? Xx
I don't know the answer to the second question but I know you'll need to be healthy to have a baby so it needs to be a new lifestyle and one you can stick with for good.
Why not try some new foods and recipes? Make it enjoyable and interesting, not just a means to an end
I truly do hope so ..... I don’t know if you can see the reply I posted to Elissy about having an episode of depression atm, but thankfully, I always come out the other side and feel ready to tackle things I found pretty undoable whilst unwell......
Really hope you’re doing okay and remembering to practise self love. Depression is so hard and sometimes it’s really difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel. You WILL feel better, it may take time but you will. Everyday is an achievement and is something to be proud of. Wishing you well.
I set myself a target of losing 9 stone (124lb). I’ve lost 51lb so far so nearly half way. I think big targets are daunting and smaller targets are a better starting point. I started by trying to lose 5% of my body weight and then set myself the goal of 10%, BMI under 35 etc. My current target is to get my BMI under 30 so that I’m out of the obese category (still another 2 stone to go for that!)
I use LCHF with intermittent fasting (IF) too, it is good food with no calorie counting 😉
A good resource with nothing to sell is at dietdoctor.com/low-carb many on here highly recommend this site for good information.
IF for me is to eat all my meals between 11 am and 7pm, it has helped me to lose weight and maintain without a lot of effort..
this forum is the best for encouragement and support.. Seriously caring and knowledgeable advice on here from the admin team and all members who have walked the walk and have freedom of speech.
Anyone who offers quick fixes.. beware that generally all you will lose is your money and time!
Well done on joining us, and wishing you success for your journey.. Very few gained the weight fast.. So try to lose it at that pace.. it will be better for your health and skin.. too fast causes different problems for some that can’t always be undone!
If you choose to try IF, you choose your times, 11-7 suits me, that's 16 hours fasting (no food, only water or hot drinks with water - no milk) and an 8 hour window to have my food, I generally eat around 11am and 5pm, but if wanted/needed I can have a snack up till 7pm, I make up a batch of chocolates as my treats and enjoy a few of these!
Recipe is seriously easy..
dietdoctor.com/recipes/low-... Instead of making mine in a tray I use small silicon chocolate moods from eBay - 50 to a tray. I will photograph them tonight when I make up a new batch and add a post...

Really glad to have found this as I am in a similar boat! I have about 100 pounds to lose in total and am 6 pounds down, so also very daunted! I’ve started watching lots of YouTube weight loss videos, but only ones that support slow and steady weight loss as I’ve had an eating disorder in the past. It’s not about setting a time limit or doing it as quickly as you can, 2 pounds a week is a really healthy goal and you’ve done really well so far! If we both keep at it, before long we ll be noticing big and sustainable change! Good luck!
Thank you! I count calories and exercise, but most of all, every time I have an off plan meal or day, I get back to it straight away the day after! I’d say consistency is key!
