Mission to loose 22 pounds

Hi All, So I am new here and in the beginnings of starting my weight loss journey.

In one week I seem to have shed 7 pounds and that is just from eating around 1100 cal a day ish. I am looking to loose 1 stone 8 pounds or near abouts that. Feel already loads better for loosing half a stone but know thats only probably water, and as a result of lowering my food intake so body has shed some water stored. I know as I get lower and lower in weight the pounds fall off way slower. Wanna keep motivated good luck to you all too!

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum Lighter125 😊

Well done on changing your eating habits but 1100 is very low. The NHS has a BMI checker here nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-we... that will suggest a target calorie range based upon your age, height etc

We've found active participation to be key to success, especially with our weigh-ins and Daily Diary. Follow this link to our chat thread and a list of all the activities we run. healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

If you haven’t already, then please read the Welcome post here which has lots of useful information about all the things we have on offer healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Welcome Lighter125.

I want to congratulate you on your loss and as you say most of it will be down to water loss with possibly 1 or 2lbs being a 'real' loss. I suspect you are eating too little and was wondering where you obtained a figure of 1100 cals and how does it compare to the range that the NHS BMI calculator provides... nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-we...

You're correct that as you get lower it will get harder and my concern is that if you're eating too little you may actually find it very very difficult as your body is going to start to react against not being fed enough.

I hope you follow that link and if I'm correct, that you give it some thought.

Thanks Tiggerr - totally get that, and i haven't found the figure anywhere to be honest thats just what I have been eating past week - for me i find it helps to loose a fair bit first few weeks as i find it really motivating (and also for me, i feel more energetic, less sluggish and lighter in mood. ) Then I start my proper fitness and health regime once feel like "I can do this!" - its a kind of mental trick. I tend to get stuck if move too slowly at first and revert to bad habits - like snacking on train home with crisps and sweets, which leads to shop bought ready meal, etc. I am a kind of all or nothing person and get very motivated by results and targets. I want to do one more week of low cal and then start training / exercising - running, small weights, general squats, lunges, HIIT etc. I may put on a few pounds once adjust the diet which will be fine as lost so much and will be then targeted on body shape/ loosing fat not weight. Its plan that has worked in past, my main next barrier to smash through is once lost a stone to not get complacent and think wicked well done me - to keep going. Especially when the results will be slower. :)

I can see where you're coming from and getting past our mental blocks is definitely an issue we all have to deal with.

My question to you would be (and I'm really not trying to be mean)... Does that mean that previously you've lost all the weight you wanted and then kept it off or are you following the same path you've always gone down?

I do wish you all the best and hope, the same as you, that the path you're travelling works for you.

In the main I have kept it off but it’s have been going through a bit of hard time with commuting and family stuff - so have neglected eating well and fitness. 9 years ago I went through a bit of a rough time and put in weight. This approach worked aontrying it again but hear your v sensible advice . Yo yo dieting or crash dieting isn’t effective in the main as body recalibrates and adjusts to compensate - it can make loosing woght harder. Two weeks of this and I’ll be done it worked before and I been trying to lose weight for 4 months with the softly approach hasn’t worked. Stay tuned and v appreciative of your advice

MyFitnessPal is good but as Tiggerr suggest, please don’t make the mistake of eating too little as evidence suggests this is a major cause of yo-yo dieting ☹️ But you sound as if you know what you’re doing.

Keep in touch 👏😊

That’s brilliant !! But don’t go too hard on yourself that calorie intake is really low 🤔

Great stuff on losing 7 pounds! Careful you don't take your calories too low as this can often back fire and lead to binge eating patterns.

Just remember that protein intake is key as well as staying properly hydrated

Thanks all! MichaelB1 Zelda123 IndigoBlue61 Tiggerr So far so good still on the downwards path :) I find that (for me) it takes months to make a decision stick, but once it does then after a couple of weeks that becomes the new reality. I did cheat last night and have a packet of crisps and some v tasty wild garlic, artichoke soup last night with friends night out, but it all balances out as rest of diet is healthy. My next step this weekend is to start the exercise plan which will then mean my cal intake goes up too. I have basically 7-8 pounds to shift in just basic weight loss, then another now 14 pounds ish but from there on in focusing on fat loss rather than weight loss (so measuring in inches rather than weight.) Have a good bank holiday everyone and thank you. x

A change in habits doesn't come easy for many of us, methinks, so well done for keeping on your healthy path.

Good luck with organising your exercise.

Had a bit of a break from healthy eating and had a v small bag of chip shop chips after walking abut 25 - 30,000 steps all along the coast - felt sooo nice and satisfying!

Am on day 12 and am now just over 9 pounds lighter. Am heading for my first gym / workout session which now will aim to go three times a week at least. Gonna try the local outdoor pool which is only 8 mins walk away ahhh! Also going for a full on deep tissue massage and gonna book weekly lymphatic drainage once loose the next 6 pounds as that in past has helped reduce appearance of cellulite. Know the exercise is key to fat loss and cellulite reduction. I have never had as much cellulite as now and I can tell you I HATE it. Will be trying all the daft stuff - coffee wraps, cold water baths, Clarins cellulite cream, dry skin brushing - wanna get RID!! Any succcess stories - come forth as really hate it spesh on my inner thighs & around my ribcage (i know why!!) .

Oh yeah, forgot to post have now lost (pre exercise regime) 1.25 inches from waist, 0.25 inches off hips, 1 inch from the bit under the bust which i bloody hate! So getting there...only another 2 inches to go to the first target aghhgh!

Lighter125 profile image
Lighter125

So today I am Day 19 and I have lost now 11 pounds - yeehah! I wanna loose another 10- 11 pounds in next 19 days so this is my target which works out at about 4 pounds ish a week. I will see how I go, but tbh if just loose half a stone will be happy too which is 2 and a half pounds a week. Will report back next week- happy Sunday all!

Lighter125 profile image
Lighter125

Oh yeah, my total phase one weight loss target is now: 11 pounds. Phase 2 is a further 7 pounds totalling 18pounds to loose overall.

I am now 3 weeks into my weight loss challenge and have lost 1 & 3/4 inch from waist, 1.25 inch from bust, 3/4 of an inch from hips. Plus i measure the bit just under my bust where have lost 3/4 of inch & around the belly (my love handles arghh and around the belly button) where i have lost just under an inch. The fat loss is the thing am focusing on as much as weight and the belly fat / abs/ rib cage fat is really the fat that seems hard to budge - i am a women in my early 40s so genetically this tallies, the central body area is gonna be toughest to get rid of fat. I have been ill with a bug last 5 days so have not been able to do my fitness which has set me back a week. However, loosing 11 pounds in 3 weeks and an overall fat loss of almost 6 inches not too shabby, but feel the next stone I want to loose (my overall target is now 16 pounds) is going to be a tougher nut to crack. I also need to tone my body, loose the cellulite - so I don't become skinny fat - I want to trim 3-4 inches from my hips and waist plus 7-8 or more from my belly (!), this is going to take patience, stamina and discipline - the real hard work really starts here. The changes I need to make to way spend my time, really just getting up and exercising each morning and ensuring stick to a balanced, every day diet will take organisation. This is now the bit will really need support. Thanks all x
