Hello! I’m a 21 year old who has always struggled with his weight, which is now at the point that I look at myself in the mirror and I am never happy with what I see. My goal is to loose 3 stone this year but most importantly become a happier, healthier person inside and out. Any beginners tips and advice for a nervous newbie? 😊

Hey! I’m a newbie too and in the same position! Good luck
Hi Cameron97 and welcome to this forum. You will get loads of support and encouragement from others on here who are or have been in your position. For a start don’t focus too much on the 3 stone goal just take small steps and break it up into 7 lb chunks. Perhaps look at the NHS 12 week plan...it is free to download . Check your BMI on the nhs website and plan how many calories you are going to work with. After 16 months I still weigh all my food, count and write down the calories on a daily basis. The best thing also is to join one of the weekly weigh in groups, pick the day that is best for you and post your weight on that day every week, the support you will get from the people on the same weigh in will be very worthwhile. Remember this is not a quick fix diet it is a new way of life eating healthily. A tip too is to measure yourself and write them down somewhere alongside your start weight so you can watch your progress. If you have any questions ask away , there is always someone who has been there,,,etc . You are only 21 and can do this especially if I can at 67 . You have not left it too late to change bad habits . You can and will do this and I look forward to following your progress . I am a Monday Mass Mover but all the weigh in groups give the same support to their weigh in members. Take time to read the info you have been sent by the lovely admin people.have a lovely week and as someone once wrote onwards and downwards.Sue 🎈🎈🎈
Hi and welcome Cameron97. As others have said, this is a friendly and supportive community so no need to be nervous here. I too would recommend the NHS 12 week plan and I found My Fitness Pal a useful tool too. I'm now not counting calories. MFP helped me to learn about what's really calorific and to see if I was balancing protein, carbs and fats or overdoing them. Now I'm sticking to 3 meals a day and healthy snacks if I really need them. Just cutting out the junk food and increasing activity seems to be doing the trick for me (I have about 6 or 7 stone to lose overall but am just focusing on small steps as it makes it more manageable. Wishing you the best of luck. Rachel
I really have enjoyed being part of this forum and a lot of what is being said really makes sense. I’ve often thought that overweight people are very often starving for nutrients that their diet isn’t giving them so they eat more of the same to douse their hunger. Carbs- I’m talking to you here!
Rather like people who very mistakenly feed bread to birds, thinking that they are nourishing them, but they’re just filling their guts up with stodge devoid of the essential nutrients that birds need.
The first job is to take control of your diet and buy loads of vegetables, fruit and a few bits of protein. Don’t eat too much rice, hardly any bread, if any and little or no pasta.
Secondly, learn to cook meals that uses the above rules.
Thirdly- no sugar and no snacking.
Last but not least, do things. Don’t just think “this needs doing.” Get up and do it.
Best of luck mate!
Oh yeah and ditch carbonated drinks!
It’s you taking control! A great you!
