Feeling nervous 😟

Good morning. I am seeing the dr today as I am having real problems with my breathing at night ( that is to say my other half is suffering from the consequences of my breathing at night!)

I sleep well, have little trouble actually getting off to sleep, but then I breathe really heavily ( through my mouth) and occasionally make strange noises that sound like I am being strangled ( apparently!)

Breathing through my nose makes me feel really light headed. I know that being overweight will be a contributory factor, I’m just hoping the dr doesn’t only blame that😟

I haven’t completed a full nights sleep in bed for over 3 months. We have an agreement that after disturbing sleep twice, one of us gets up, but as I am the only one who can lie comfortably on the settee, it’s usually me.

However, armed with a new found determination for C25k and losing weight, I’ve decided that enough is enough.

Wish me luck and a sympathetic doctor 😔

Good luck at the doc's Jingle_berry

My thinking would be that I'd want the doc to say it was all down to being overweight. Firstly because that would mean they actually knew what was causing it and secondly because you wouldn't need any other intervention other than a continuing move to a healthier you.

Glad you're feeling determined and good luck with the c25k.

I'm sure the doctor will be sympathetic. Good luck!

I'm sorry to hear that, Jingle_berry, it sounds a lot like sleep apnoea, which is usually caused by being overweight. However, the good thing about that, is that losing the weight, should also improve it :)

Getting it checked out is a positive step forward, which will take you closer to a cure :)

This sounds a bit like my husband, I remember the strange noises very well, even taped him a few times as he didn’t believe me! He wears a mouth guard and it has helped a lot. He was sent to a sleep clinic where they discovered he sufferes with sleep apnea, not so bad he needs oxygen, it is reasonably mild. Loosing weight will help. Sleeping with only one pillow also helped my husband.

Wishing you good luck😊

Well I’ve been! The dr was lovely, didn’t even mention my weight as a look up my nose revealed severe ‘rhinositis’ - very inflamed sinuses full of mucus!!!

I’ve been prescribed a strong nasal spray and been referred to the ENT clinic as a precaution ( waiting list up to 3 months, with spray should be sorted in a month - 6 weeks) so will cancel appointment if not needed.

Just before I left, I explained that I was aware I was overweight ( elephant in the room) but was doing something about it. He said ‘that’s great to hear...but this is definitely not weight related’

I feel so much better, might celebrate with an afternoon snooze 😴

Good result all round Jingle_berry . Thinking about it the other way round, not only does being overweight affect sleep, lack of sleep can also affect weight and ability to lose weight by raising your cortisol level.

I hope the nasal spray soon starts having results :)

Great news Jingle-berry 😊.

I hate the fact that we always feel guilt going to a doctor if we are overweight, as if that is to blame for EVERYTHING 😡

Well done for taking the plunge, and big cheer to a fabulous doctor for NOT assuming it was weight related 😊👏🎖.

What’s C25? And may I ask what you weigh? Funnily enough my wife got out of bed because she said I was snoring so loudly. I’m 238lbs

Hi Kuga_UK. C25k is the NHS Couch 2 5 km running program. 9 weeks to go from non-runner to running for 30 mins non-stop. I completed it last year, but stupidly stopped, so am on it again!! Just stared week 3.

I weigh 16 st 10 pounds xxx

Gosh I can run (or jog) about 30 seconds :/

I really couldn’t when I first started! Thank thought I was having some kind of heart attack. I came home and literally did nothing all afternoon whilst I recovered!!!

However, the program works, even for total non believers ( of which I was one 😊 ) x

How long did that take you make that progress?

I’m really sorry - I thought I’d replied to this, however if you get it twice...I already did!!!

I did weeks 1-3 twice (6 weeks) and then weeks 4 -9 ( 1 week each). I ran 3 times per week, so completed the program in 12 weeks.

😊
