Just joined looking to lose at least 2 and1/2 stone, have previously been doing SlimmingWorld but unfortunately have not got the finances to do that long term, so need to get back into calorie counting. Any tips or ideas would be great.
I live in a beautiful part of North Devon so walking is great option for me.

Hey and welcome! I've got 2 and a half stone left to lose so we are in the same boat!
Walking is fabulous! Just make sure it's brisk. "Walk like you are late getting somewhere" was great advice I saw somewhere.
My weight loss was very up and down until I added walking (and later jogging and other exercises).
I also calorie count. I have my wonderful food-bible! A notepad with meal plans for week days and week ends so i can work out my meals ahead for the week and they already add up to my calorie allowance.
Makes it very simple and plenty of space to add recipes and revise plans.
The NHS BMI calculator is superb for working out your allowance! And you can adapt it to your needs. For instance I like more calories on weekends when I don't have work to distract me so I add some there and lower my week day allowance to compensate.
Just a notebook. So for example...if my main meal was roast I would have to check the packaging for the calories. So, using fictional numbers, if beef was 200 calories, potatoes 300, gravy 40, vegetables 150, Yorkshire pudding 40 X2 (80) I would work all that out once. The total is then 770 calories. From now on, instead of working it all out every time I can just look it up and go ah, 770 calories.
My meal plans include the whole day. So will be "crumpet for breakfast 108, beans on toast for lunch 200, Jaffa cake for snack 46, beef roast 770 ... And so forth with the over all total listed (1800 calories for the day).
But if I want to change the crumpet for something else of similar calories then I can.
My food-bible has about 15 week day plans and about 8 weekend plans and then plans for if I'm off work too as my needs are different then. And weekends are more family orientated meals. But basically I only have to do the math once and as we (people, in general) usually have a rotation of the same meals over a few weeks it is very simple.
I got the idea from work as they have a 4-week rotating menu.
Hi i have just joined too last week. I also have just left weight watchers due to unable to afford the programme. I have been reading all the information not really started as yet thought would get idea first about this programme. I am really impressed about NHS programme and its all free! Its run my volunteers they are amazing how much time and effort they put into this so we can achieve our goals. Good luck
Hi and welcome Eightiesshowgirl. I found "myfitnesspal" a useful aid for calorie counting and working out if I was getting enough/too much protein, carbs, fats etc. It was free to download the basic version when I did it. (Now I'm trying a different tack and am on three healthy meals a day and restricting bread, sugar and flour basically - except fruit; I allow myself as much fruit as I want). Wishing you luck, Best wishes, Rachel. PS I also did the NHS 12 week plan and found that very useful for tips and info
Hi Eightiesshowgirl and welcome to this forum. While SW is okay for some it is a diet which is a fairly short term thing. What you need is a new healthy lifestyle that you can live with for the rest of your lovely life. The NHS 12 week plan is worth looking at and following . I used now and now continue to count calories whilst weighing everything and writing it down . You will find what is best for you if it becomes a chore then you won’t be able to keep it up . You don’t sound to have a problem with the walking and what a level part if the country to live in. You should join a weigh in group on here so you will get extra support and encouragement from those members too. You have made the first step on your journey so read through everything the admins send references too, you may need to read them several times, I did . I wish you all the best on your weight loss journey, take small steps and aim for your first 7 lbs off then treat yourself to a non food item. Good luck you can do it Sue💐💐💐
