Oh dear. I went to the gym last night, mainly to de-stress. I was going great..... and then I thought I would do a final bit of exercise on the treadmill. For some reason known only to myself, I decided to go for a different setting. All went well until the treadmill suddenly started to go at lightning speed. I quickly jumped to the safety of the side platforms and stopped the machine. Now at this point you would think I had learned my lesson, but nooooo I decided to tackle this setting again on a much lower intensity. Exactly the same thing happened except this time I lost my footing. My trainer made a strange squealy noise (or it may have been me!) as I tried not to fall over and I actually shouted at the machine 'I didn't know you were going to do that!' I did then finally go back to exercising on my usual setting but could hardly do it for laughing at myself. My son says I have to immediately find another gym to avoid future sniggering. I don't care - I blame it on my age. And let's face it, I must have looked hilarious. Advice anyone?

Do your running outside, mazza36, then you'll be in control at all times and will have the added bonus of fresh air and scenery
You are right moreless, it is better outside! I actually love going to the gym so will brazen it out. After all, if I can dye my hair pink, who cares if I make a fool of myself on the treadmill lol.
A blast! A friend in work fell of a running machine, hit her head and had concussion! I just go walking in the hills!
Absolutely well done for having kept going and have the ability to laugh at yourself. You made me smile. ๐ฅณ
Next time you go make an entrance! Make sure everyone sees you then speak to the machine asking it to behave itself. Everyone will think you are really v.i.p. and envy your attitude. ๐
Congratulate yourself of on making me and many others no doubt, rock with laughter, with you, not at you!! Sniggerers are just "there but for the grace of God it wasn't me" people so keep them out of your eyeline. Keep doing what you do I say, and I'm afraid embarrassing your kids is just part of life's rich tapestry. You go girl!
Never given up everyone don't something silly it's part of life. Keep going xx
Love your post mazza36 you tell us above your peril but you do so in a humorous way. Embarrassing at the time but it showed your determination for the machine not to beat you. I think we have all been there doing something embarrassing. Over the last few years I have fallen over quite a bit since being overweight I don't know if anyone else finds that. I can fall over the tiniest pebble, horrible feeling as you fall like in slow motion unable to stop the fall then crash. The people at the gym may have noticed at the time but they quickly forget. Sounds like your son also has a good sense of humour and lets face it I think it makes life a lot easier to get through sometimes. I was feeling miserable this morning and in tears but your post cheered me up some thanks.
I hope your day gets better! Falling over is horrible and I always feel like I do it slow motion. Yoga is supposed to be very good at combatting it.
Ha. Reminds me of not seeing the adjusting weights on side of machine and hauling then clunking a colossal weight with people looking bewildered at me . A young woman would get sympathy or at least empathy but aged 59 I just get almost ' let's look slyly at what she can do looks ' . I don't think many will remember . The young lads tend to use some of the equipment as chairs whilst they busy themselves sending airhead What's App messages about their stressful traumatic lives living mortgage free and meals cooked with parents . The serious have headphones belting out motivational lyrics so are in their own utopia . As long as you weren't injured then well done for actually mingling with this crowd . I stick to Zumba -all ages , varied madness as we leap about and honesty do enjoy ๐.
You made me smile mazza36.....have images of you on the treadmill going at lightening speed then shouting at it.....gym not boring when you are there๐ well done for getting back on.
Hi Mazza36, I realise this was a funny tale, but it did make me wonder whether you were safely tethered to the emergency off button - so that if you do fall, it disconnects and the treadmill stops? Iโve been grateful for it on more than one occasion :))
Good point PandQs - the answer is of course I was not! The truth is I don't run much on the treadmill, just walking uphill. If i had more than one brain cell functioning I would have realised the hills programme was for runners. Sadly however, I didn't read the description. definitely a pink moment.
I havenโt been on one for a while since hip and knee problems, but previously I had great success fitness wise, by just with walking very briskly on the flat. I was enough for me, I felt very uncomfortable/unsafe if I broke into a jog.
Haha just turn up as usual I bet everyone enjoyed it
Hope you donโt mind but that made me laugh out loud that was brilliant hope youโre ok
Excellent! Glad you laughed - that was my intention. Not hurt in the slightest, not even my pride.
