LCHF is a healthy diet :)

Aim for 0.6g-1.2g/kg protein, which for the average person is about 70g/270kCal/15%.

If you're aiming for weight loss and/or general health then keep your carbs low and your fat high. LCHF would be 15% carbs/70% fat, but if that's not to your taste you could go with 30% carbs/55% fat and see how you get on.

Carbs higher than about 55% is associated with a wide range of negative health outcomes, including obesity, heart disease, and diabetes; it also disrupts your appetite, making you prone to overeating. The only exception to this scenario is if you're eating the majority of your carbs as non-starchy vegetables, but that's quite hard to achieve in practice.

I set them at a level I could manage 😊. I doubt I could have gone as low as 15% carbs initially, I think it was about 40%. This was still a big improvement on my eating habits and I did lose weight, steadily and consistently.

Then important thing is to make the eating plan sustainable, one you can stick to without feeling deprived and hungry. The way I heard it was we need to be “consistently good rather than occasionally brilliant” 😊

Thank you, not mine, it’s a favoured saying of Scott Baptie from the excellent podcasts on foodforfotness.co.uk 😊
