Hi, Cookqueen , Welcome.

One of TeamAdmin will be along in a minute - and they will give you the "Newbie Pack".

They recommend starting near the top of the daily calorie range... and weight-loss might not be immediate and dramatic.

People who have no metabolic problems or history of yo-yo dieting can often lose one or two pounds a week plus an initial half a stone over the first two of three weeks.

If you get very hungry at the top of your calorie range you might have to cut down gradually.

Simple arithmetic and Biochemistry dictate that, if you use more calories than you eat, you will lose weight - but, if you have metabolic problems you might find that simple arithmetic will not (appear to) work.

Good afternoon Cookqueen,

Yes it is possible to keep within your calorie allowance and loose weight. What you must do though is eat enough, you should not feel any hunger. Use the NHS BMI calculator to work out your own personal calorie allowance and start towards the high end.

As you have been a yo yo dieter for many years, like many of us, you probably use low fat and diet foods and avoid fat. Time to change. Stop buying low fat and diet foods, stop thinking diet and think Healthy Life Style that is sustainable and enjoyable. Add good fats to your meals that are satiating and you would probably do better if you can stop or at least for now, cut back on the carbs, such as bread, rice, pasta and potatoes. Just remember, if you always do what you have always done, you will get the same results :)

Some good advise here. I have never been a fan of low or 0% fat products. I have always used proper butter, too. Everything in moderation, though!

Thanks for advice, and wow just checked my bmi shocked !! Also my allowance of calories I had myself on was 1300 way off !! After I checked on the site I should be having 1581-2032 the lower end would give me Approx 2llbs a week I would be happy with that,I will keep checking on the page for hints and tips also I have downloaded the app thanx again everyone for advice.

You are welcome. Please do not be tempted to start at the low end of your calorie range, start toward the top. Once you stop loosing weight at the lower end you will have no where to drop down to and will be eating so few calories that your body will think it is being starved and further weight loss will be difficult. 1lb a week is an ideal weight loss :)

Hi there Cookqueen - yes, as long as you stay within a calorie limit for weight loss then you'll lose weight - I have had to do this by weighing and measuring portions and keeping a food log (for the past 7 years!) BUT as you lose weight and get closer to your weight loss goal, that calorie allowance will reduce.
