Hi Kirsty, so you are feeling it, you are not so sluggish - that is a great Non Scale Victory
I first noticed my face had thinned out. You'll notice all sorts very soon. Remember it's not all about visual changes though. Your body is going to be a lot happier on the inside
I felt better in myself within 48 hours, more energised and less bloated. Inch loss and better skin, hair etc are also good indicators. ๐ For me, its important to enjoy the process, get on with living life to the full and treat weight loss as a secondary benefit
That's a good result! The first seven pounds are water loss from your body. You don't start burning off the fat for several weeks - though you might lose an average of 2Ibs a month.
It's important to keep some carbs in your diet as it helps muscle function. As long as you have no other medical condition such as thyroid and diabetes, then you are probably going to reach your target weight with no problem. Well done.
Sorry hawii60 but I dispute this, it took me 6 weeks to lose 7lbs and it was not water . . . I agree that for some, who go on a radical diet, they can lose a lot of fluid, but if you adopt the approach we recommend then you should lose fat at around 1-2lbs per week. This obviously depends upon how much you have to lose, as we can only lose a certain % of our body fat at a time.
You are probably right with some conscientious dieters who are obese rather than over weight. I used to run a slimming club which was based on different diets including calorie counting and low carbohydrates and high protein. It was not until I developed type 2 diabetes, that I was in a quandary, and found I had slight thyroid problem and could only lose a pound a week sometimes less than that. My metabolism was disturbed. Thank you for info.
Slow and steady weight loss is best in my opinion, and Diabetes can improve with weight loss. Have you looked at a lower carb, higher fat approach? Many people find this can really help ๐
That is my new year resolution! I want to lose a stone this year - even though I will still be over weight but I lost two and half stones last year and can get into a size 14 instead of 18. My diabetes improved with normal sugar levels but now I can see I have been eating the wrong foods over Christmas and the New Year and my habits need a firm hand. Thanks for your encouragement
Big water losses usually occur if you cut back drastically on carbs and/or salt. If you don't and you didn't have edema to start with then the loss you see is likely mainly fat right from the start. But even if the weight you lost *would* be mainly water you'd feel and see a difference.
Yes you are right - the high protein diet with low carb, can make you lose water for a few weeks, but if you are on a calorie controlled diet, you might be eating sweets, or extra fruit or packets of salted peanuts, so your salt level might be higher than normal.
Sugary fizzy drinks and salty foods such as biscuits are addictive and can upset your fluid levels and lead to fluid retention. I did not notice any difference in my figure and it took several months to go down a size. I noticed the love handles were less pronounced but that was fatty tissue reduction rather than fluid. There have been problems with the Atkinsons's diet which was popular many years ago, causing kidney problems, and muscle problems if there was too little carbs. Thanks for information.
Personally, I think it depends how much you have to lose - I could tell myself after about a stone & a half, but a lot of other people didn't notice until it was closer to 3 stone ๐ฑ but that's fine by me, I'm not doing it for other people. Feeling better happened a lot sooner & you're doing your body and health the world of good, keep on keeping on ๐ ๐ช
