Hi and welcome! I've recently joined a gym and posted to ask for others experiences (find this by clicking on my profile and scroll to "any other gymn newbies out there". What do you do there?
I started just a few months back as I had signed up to do the 5k muddy run for cancer research. Sour now when I come to the gym I do 5k on the cross trainer . Took me a while to build the confidence on coming to the gym but now I don't really care what people think I do it for me. I also mix it with the bike and gonna try and conquer the rowing machines (not my fave) ! I mix it with weights as well. I try and come during the week after the nursery run . I just get really confused on what to eat . I've changeddone drinking tones of tea and coffee to hot water and fresh lemon. And try to have fish for lunch before I come . Sometimes I'm not sure if I'm doing anything right just feel like I've got a massive way to go to loose all the weight as I'm at 92kg .
bloody hell I hate the cross-trainer (now I know what it's called!) I save the delightful experience til last and only do 5 minutes! I much prefer walking a few km by the sea .. but bad back and COPD tell me running is not yet an option (actually I'm not sure I can remember how to run and not in any hurry to find out - no pun intended!)
Dont panic about being unsure what to do. You'll get loads of advice here but most obvious is cut out junk! i'll leave it others to get more detailed. I started at 88.4kg and have got down to 72 in 13 weeks which is probably a bit too fast but I feel GREAT! If I can do it anyone can honest!
If you're 92kg, don't overdo it until you've shifted a bit of weight. Your joints are carrying a lot of stress at the moment, so stick with low-impact work for now. Your combination of crosstrainer, rowing, bike and weights is ideal.
Just bear in mind that the whole point of going to the gym is to improve your cardiovascular fitness and strength. It doesn't have a whole lot of effect on weight loss - in fact if your diet is wrong, lots of cardio can actually cause your body to hold onto the flab. Monitor your progress, and if your weight loss stalls out, you'll need to re-assess what you're eating (don't just try to eat less - like too much exercise, that tends to have the opposite of the intended effect).
Welcome, you are in the right place definitely! 🍀 Good Luck.
You have definitely found the right place. I started with the NHS 12-week plan and have gone from there. Stick with us, and we'll all do this together!
Thanks everyone for the comments. It's been great to have some feedback x Just got to stay strong and try and break old habits I guess xx Today not been too bad at the gym didn't indulge in any junk food (so far) so been OK. Xx
