Hi everyone,
Can I ask what diet/health plan you are doing and why you have chosen to follow that one?
I'm forever chopping and changing and getting nowhere!
Thanks
Kate 😊

Welcome pmkmrm to our friendly and supportive forum,
Oooh join the club. There are just so many plans to follow and so much conflicting advice. I started off calorie counting and I feel that is a good place to start. So would suggest you look at the NHS 12 week plan. Once you have worked out what your calorie range from the NHS BMI calculator is (make sure you start somewhere around the high end), you will be able to better judge your portion sizes. I would say though, ignore their advice regarding low fat diet foods. They are full of sugar and not filling. Using full fat versions is much better for you.
I would then suggest that you spend a lot of time on here, read and read again and learn as you go, I have been here 18 months and on occasions it has been overwhelming but now I am sifting through my new knowledge and I am going down the low carb high fat route and it suits me. Depending on your age, eating white carbs, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes is not helpful. We have lots of links we can give you on different subjects. I don't want to give them all to you know though as you may find it a bit overwhelming.
Decide to start in one place and stick with it for a few weeks, then tweak and change things - take a look at the Daily Diary to see what others are doing and maybe get some inspiration. Come back and ask as many questions as you like, we have some very knowledgeable people here
To make navigating the forum easier, we've put all the information you'll need in a newbie pack and here's the link

We are all individuals and have to find a way of eating that’s is sustainable long term that suits our own individual lifestyle and temperament
I count calories for weight loss, but also restrict carbohydrates as it suits me as a post menopausal, largely immobile woman.
Good luck whatever you decide 😊
Hi pmkmrm, im on week 4 of 800 cal allowance. Counting my calories, and spreading over brek, lunch, main meal. Early days, especially as im so impatient, but im improving, and have in the past tried variations of reducing calories, so sticking with this for 3 months, although a yoyo dieter (ie weight gain, one week , can easily put back few weeks later, which im trying to stop, in various ways, one way is being fairly 'open' on here, by texting bad and good days, but as I said very early days, but pleased with results so far, and much calmer about losing weight.
Thank you so much for all your replies x
I am on low carb, not very low carb - I'm using the diabetes.uk lowcarbprogram.
And the clue is there - after years of yoyoing up and down, and several years of not bothering, I now have diabetes.
The programme is great, I was in remission in less than two weeks and have also lost over 2st since the end of May.
I aim for under 90g of carbs a day, and eat plenty of green salad and green vegs with chicken/fish/egg/cheese. My carbs are mainly from a special 'porridge' mix for breakfast (or coconut flour pancakes) and milk, with some from other salads/vegs, some fruit - mainly berries - and a little dark chocolate.
I have stevia ice cream or coconut flour/almond flour baked goods a couple of times a week (yes I still have that sweet tooth that caused me so many issues, but stevia is my friend).
