Hello Ginger-shell π And welcome to the forum π
I follow an "everything in moderation" plan, calorie counted, lots fresh ingredients and nothing banned, for long term permanent change. Having tried every 'diet' under the sun only to regain afterwards this way seems to be working for me π
Have a look at the Newbies post and the 12 week plan.
Good luck
Thank you Anna61.
Just managed to find the plan! I'm not Web savvy lol
Looks really good and supportive tooπ
Definitely be giving it a try x
Completely agree with IndigoBlue61 that is has to be a long term permanent change. If you say you are 'on a diet' then what happens when you come off that diet. Hopefully you can find all the information you need on the 12 week plan Anna suggested and it will help you to retrain your eating and live more healthily. No one says its going to be easy but stick with it and I know you will get there. Happy Christmas
This is the best way. I'm calorie counting too, nothing forbidden, then I don't feel deprived. And it's working!
Hi ginger-shell the NHS 12 week plan is an excellent starting point, many of us have found it very helpful. It gives some advice about menus and how to work out calories. If you loook at the pinned posts on the right hand side of your screen there is a recipe thread with lots of brilliant ideas π
Good morning Ginger-shell . The problem with starting a diet is that it leads to an obvious conclusion, ending a diet. If we revert back to learnt eating behaviours, we yo-yo back to where we were. It is a vicious cycle and it makes a lot of money for companies that run diets. Been there, done that.
The NHS 12 week plan and this forum are very different . You calculate your daily calories using the NHS bmi checker and then you can juggle those calories to suit yourself. We don't deprive ourselves because that leads to cravings and problems. You can eat a piece of cake but you will need to work it into your daily intake.
My advice to you is try to substitute your meals with healthier versions. There are lots of ideas on here. Don't snack between meals or if you do allow for it with your calories. Knock alcohol back to a minimum and start some exercise. This isn't for everyone as you do need willpower but the support here is AMAZING! Good luck. Xx
Perfect advice.
I have been ensuring that I walk at least 10.000 steps a day. I know that I don't eat enough and not the right stuff either so any advice will be welcomed.
I have attended 2 different types of groups but wanted something different and look lasting x
Sounds like the exercise part is sorted then. Just make sure you eat three proper meals a day. Load up your plate with veg, eat wholegrain rice or pasta as it is slow release and experiment with new foods. eg Sweet potato fries are a lovely treat instead of chips. Porridge will be your friend for life! I really read the food labels and I get a real kick out of finding a low calorie food now. Xx
I too am following a low/no carb eating plan - not diet - I don't miss potatoes or rice and pasta, find I'm ok with the extra veg. I agree that it's a mindset that you need to get into, or portion control and healthy eating. I'm actually hating that Christmas food is ruining all my hard work, but have allowed myself just a few days to go off track before getting back to healthy eating. And booze - nightmare, you might just as well eat a packet of crisps.... sigh.
You don't get a food history lesson elsewhere now do you? You tend to think that it must have been better in the pre McDonalds era, but perhaps not.
Another thing which Hidden has taught me is that fat isn't necessarily the root of all evil. Low fat means high sugar which is not good for you. Eat smaller portions of the non diet variety. Xx
That's interesting! Thank you
What is natural fat? Do you mean like nuts or meat?
I've followed the 5:2 diet or should I say, eating plan. With this I only have to count calories 2 days a week. Only 500 calories on each day, but eat normally on the other 5. It's been great for me and has become routine now.
I got a book called "The Fast Diet" which gives all the information you need about 5:2
