Need to get a grip

I am 58 and have been diagnosed with Diabetes type 2 since 2017 (althoughI had been borderline for years apparently). I had a retinal vein occlusion in 2014 and at the time was not related to Diabetes but was related to hypertension. I am now taking Sitagliptin each day. I recently started having problems with my eye again and have been told that I have retinopathy as well. I am obese and need to lose at least 5 stone (15.7 stn). I have tried many diets in the past and they have all been great and I have lost the weight only to have it pile on after changing my habits back.

I know that all the conditions I have are related to or would be less if I lost weight. I need a very simple diet plan that will be easy to follow, it doesn't have to be elaborate.

Many thanks

Welcome back, Maddy :)

I suggest you have a good look at this, as reversing Type 2 diabetes isn't just about losing weight, it's about changing the things that you eat.

You're here, and that's a good start in itself. Moreless has given you some good places to investigate, too. I would guess there are lots of sites online for diabetics -- I've had a quick look, and (perhaps unfortunately) reading some of the comments scared me silly, so do be very careful out there to make sure you are reading good information and not quacks.

I used to be dismissive about the usefulness of an online community... but not now! This is a wonderful, supportive website, so do hang around, participate -- especially when you are feeling low -- and find your place here. It can't hurt and might very well help.👍

Thanks for the advice everyone, I am now having soup for breakfast lunch and dinner. Not sure I am losing any weight but my gut feels better and that's a win as I have diverticular disease.
