Hi I need to lose 6 stone to become comfortable but about 9 stone to be a healthy weight, it seems such a huge amount that I'm finding it really difficult to stay motivated, I have lost the same 5 stone so many times thru dieting only to put it back on again, carrying all this extra weight is making walking hurt my back after a while, so finding excercising difficult, I really would like to change my lifestyle rather than another crash diet, hopefully it will also help my Pcos, I have just weighed myself and taken measurements so today is the first day of my new healthy life, any tips anyone may have will be gratefully received thank you xx
Need to loseover 6 stone: Hi I need to... - Weight Loss Support
Need to loseover 6 stone
Hi and welcome
Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI (can be found in the pinned Newbie post) to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for 😊
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate 😊
To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support - which is great to get ideas of what other people are eating and I have to confess to nicking some of their menu's and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.
Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too 😊
Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey
Good morning, we are all on the same journey & we all support each other.
I've successfully lost weight when going to slimming classes (over 2.5 stones) and then put most of it back on several times.
This time I'm eating my normal food but just being a bit more careful about portion sizes. I am using the calorie allowance from the NHS BMI checker .
I'm losing weight & hopefully keep it off this time.
Good luck 🤞
Thank you for your reply, I have just checked the bmi calorie checker, really helpful, I think your right about portion sizes when I dish up dinner I don't even think about it, I will start weighing/measuring, good luck on your weight loss journey xx
One of the things I find helps with portion control is to use a side plate instead of a dinner one. It's almost impossible to overload a small plate enough to blow your daily calorie budget, especially if you're eating plenty of fresh veg or salad.
Today is my first day too and I am looking to lose 6st too, losing motivation is my prob too, hope we both manage to get to our healthy weight x
Good to know I'm not alone thank you for your reply, good luck to you too, I'm sure with all this support available we will get there xx
Hi Bel welcome to the group. I am in the same boat as you to get down to a healthy weight I have a good few stones to shift. So far I am 1lb off my 3 stone and believe me this pound is driving me crazy.
I am not on a diet I am healthy eating and to me that makes a huge difference, over the past 6 months I have changed my eating and adopted new habits. I keep a food diary where I write down everything I eat and drink, I tally up portions of fruit and veg and write down how I felt that day, both physically and emotionally and how much, if any, exercise I did. It may sound silly but recording the food I eat puts me off eating unhealthy food as I don't want to have to write it in my diary.
There is lots of support on this forum and lots of advice and good ideas. You really just have to try new things and see what works for you. You have made the first and most important step, so well done you. I look forward to reading your future posts. Good luck.
I love your tip on writing down everything you eat including noting your physical and emotional reactions! I need to get more organized and implement it. Thanks.
Hi Matets I have dieted most of my life and what makes this time different is that I am NOT on a diet, I don't count calories but I do record what I eat and drink and how I feel. It just makes such a difference to me. Good luck with your weight loss journey.
Take one day at a time not to feel overwhelm. You should exercise 3 times a week. And most of all enjoy life everyday and feel good about yourself!!1
Just came across your post from 4 months ago...really interested to see how your getting on as I too have several stone to lose....I'm finding weekends really difficult....urghhh
