Hi everyone, I've just this minute joined your group, a first for me as I usually avoid talking about my weight and lack of fitness.
I'm a new granny and I want to enjoy my grandson to the fullest, which I can't do as I'm soooooo overweight. I'm 164 cms and weigh 86 kg......... If I don't do something now I will not be able to do activities with him when he gets a bit bigger and starts running around.
My main problem is snacking snacking and even more snacking, especially in the evenings.
I know I need to change my bad habits but I find myself eating for no reason, sometimes I don't even realise I'm eating or even taste what I put in my mouth!!!!!!! I just seem to be permanently putting food in my mouth and I need help 😢
In a perfect world, I need my meals to be put i front of me already calorie counted and healthy but that's never going to happen so here I am,,,,,,, looking for meal ideas.
Thanks for reading and look forward to hearing from you all with your tips and ideas.

Hello and welcome. Congratulations on having a new grandson . I'm sure you will find the recipes, advise and support here will be a great help. Evening snacking seems to be The downfall of lots of us and as you say lots of the time it is more habit than need. I'm sure with your new motivation you can break the habit and start on making small changes to healthier eating. I wish you good luck and encourage you to read as much of this forum as you can as it is so helpful and the people on it are so supportive. 😁
If you have enough free time in the evening for mindless snacking, it's time to take up a hobby, or three. Why not join a club, go swimming, dancing, do some yoga, get an exercise dvd, knit something for your new grandson, log onto the forum?
There are many recipes in Topics, most of them calorie counted and the internet is awash with them.
1. Put your details into the NHS BMI calculator, so that you know what your calorie allowance is.
3. Make a shopping list, concentrating on fresh meat/fish (if you're not vegetarian), fresh/frozen veg, low GI carbs, eg quinoa, bulgur wheat, sweet potatoes. No low fat items and limit processed foods as much as possible.
NO snack foods.
4. Join today's weigh-in and log your start weight.
5. Join the Daily Diary and plan your menus.

The only way avoid eating snacks is I don't buy them so they aren't in the house to tempt me- otherwise I have no self control when the munchies starts. Have you checked whether you are eating your full calorie allowance- check on the NHS BMI calculator and it will work out how many calories- an upper & lower ranges. I use MYFitnessPall which works out my calories of the meals I make- I tend to cook my own meals and I have found that my diet hasn't changed much its just I have better combined the food I eat over the day. You will get officially invited by an administrator in the next few hours who will direct you to the Newbies section which will help you navigate the website to get the full benefit from it, If you have any questions then don't hesitate to ask we are not experts but we will all have experienced what you are going through and can suggest actions which worked for them. Some clean their teeth when they start getting the urge to snack or drink herbal teas (peppermint seems popular) because the after taste tends to put off the munchies since not many foods go with peppermint!
Congratulations on your new role, and what a great incentive to tackle the excess weight
Habits can be difficult to break but it can be done and you've taken the first step by recognising them. You've had some great suggestions already about filling your time up differently and just not having those snacks in the house, so I'd suggest you decide on one or two changes you are going to make this week and commit to sticking to them. Then one or two more next week and so on .....
If/when you slip up, have a proper look at why that was and how you can avoid it in the future, but don't see it as a disaster. Take your time to find your way around the forum and get involved as much as you can
Well done for coming here and admitting you have problems which is the hardest thing to do.
I find if sweet items and junk items aren't around I don't want them.
