I am alost 4 stone overweight. I've tried most things from slimming world, weight watchers, juicing, diet tablets, and the list goes on. Like most people I start off well, do great for a few weeks then sadly I slip back into my old habits. I feel disgusted with myself, guilty for overeating and really need to change my eating habits. I would welcome any tips for staying on track and making this a way of life. I have a 5 year old daughter and desperately would like to set a good example for her. I know what my downfalls are but can't seem to stop myself from snacking on crisps, the odd chocolate bar and all the wrong things. I long to crave fruit and veg but it just doesn't come naturally to me.

Welcome to the NHS Weight Loss Forum here on HealthUnlocked - this forum is a great place for support, motivation and inspiration to lose weight.
Take a look at the NHS 12 Week Plan, it contains recipes and exercise plans to follow for the first twelve weeks of your journey.
Take a look at the left of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile device) and find the 'Pinned Posts' section, here you can find various challenges that are going on in the forum (take part in whatever ones take your fancy - if any do at all!), there is also a recipe collation there and any important posts from Admin The Welcome Newbie post is also there, it gives some great advice!
Also to your left is the 'Topics' area, here you can find posts related to each topic, it's good if you are looking for something specific
The Monday Group Weigh In takes place weekly and is posted alternately by Zest and moreless (I suggest you follow them, they are also our site admins), a morning session post is put live just before 06:30 and runs until midday, while the afternoon session runs from midday until 18:00 on the Friday of that week - it'll be running as usual tomorrow, so why not go over and post your starting weight there?
All that remains is to wish you a great first week on the forum - be involved because it's where we get our boost each day
Hiya, this forum is brilliant, I'm sure it will help motivate you when the going gets tough (as it does tend to do from time to time!). I totally relate to your feelings of guilt. I've had a rough few months and some time away from the forum but feel ready to return and continue the journey now. The thing is, you might find that this is just the way life pans out, I think a lot of folk have their ups and downs. The main thing is to try to not beat yourself up, we are all human. If you have a hiccup, just get up, dust yourself down, and keep trying, because it's better to keep trying after every hiccup, than it is to completely give up and pile on even more weight. I've been having that kind of journey myself for the last few months - up 2 pounds, down 1, up 1, down 2...and it's resulted in keeping my weight within a few pounds of the lowest weight I had got down to, at least. If I hadn't kept getting up and trying to keep going, I would probably have put on 2 stone by now. So don't be downhearted if you have a blip. Just press the reset button in your mind and start afresh. You get a second chance every second of every day to change things. Come here, vent, ask for support, and you will defo get it, we all understand the struggle is very real and the folk here are wonderful and non-judgmental. If it's any consolation, I don't crave fruit and veg as such, I will just make a roast dinner and make the ratio of meat and potatoes far less than the other healthier, less calorific veggies like carrot, peas, onion, broccoli and cauli. Once you heap up the veggies in a meal you are less likely to go for a snack because you are so full from the meal, I've found. I've learned to always calorie count my gravy. I don't really like my veggies without gravy, so, I have to factor it in, and then I will be happy to eat the veggies and actually enjoy them. It took me a while to figure out what ratios I needed in the various regular meals we eat as a family, but I made computer documents with meals in, weights/measurements of what should be in each meal, so that I didn't go over, and it works well. I still get to eat stuff I enjoy, I just have to budget my calories for the day correctly. As long as you can get a balance and have some veggies in a day, you can factor in the odd piece of cake or chocolate bar, just not several in one sitting like I used to sometimes do (tut tut me!). Good luck on your journey, I am sure you can do it, everyone here will be backing you all the way!
I absolutely adore fruit, veg, salads and all things healthy. I wouldn't eat junk food even if you paid me a great deal of money. I occasionally have the odd chocolate and I cannot stand any drinks that are in the least bit sweet.
I wasn't always this way - but I find that you acquire tastes by trying things that at first you may not like. I have always hated olives, all my life my friends would like olives, and I hated them. One day, coerced by OH, I actually allowed a green olive to stay in my mouth without spitting it out, so then I tried another one. Now olives - all types - are my favourite treats, I adore them. I would rather have a box on olives than a box of chocolates. Same with all vegetables. My advice is to persevere because if you do you will indeed start craving fruit and veg. I could not live without veg but I could certainly live without anything sweet or fatty.
You have some great help and advice above 😊 My tip is to find an eating plan that suits you, one you can follow permanently and that allows treats now and then 😊 Then you just need to get your head in the right place, tell yourself you can do it, that this time is different, and this time its for life 😊
