After watching Tom Kerridge on BBC 2 last night, I have decided to step on the bathroom scales and was shocked to see that over the last 5 years I have gradually reached the state of morbidly obese. It began 6 years ago when my husband successfully got through cancer, I was away from home and the eating & drinking a glass or two began. Until 18 months ago I was punishing myself with heavy gym exercise despite being at that time obese! Like other members of the group I was always very fit prior to this, and got a buzz from exercise and was a runner & mountaineer. At the moment I am quite upset that being focussed on others and family, I have got lost somewhere despite my own brushes with cancer...... looking at an old photograph box it actually took some time to recognise that the slim person in a crowd was me!!! I am here, it is my time now....... and I will look at the Newbie Forum I noticed on the right of the screen. Only I can sort this out ...... and so 2018 is the start of ‘finding me’ 😊

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum Helianthus (what a lovely username 🌻)

You most certainly are not alone, and I know it’s a cliche, but it’s important to keep ourselves fit and well if we are to care for others. I truly believe 2018 WILL be your year 😊

Please do pop over to our Newbie Club, here is the link in case you need it

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

where you'll find all the information you need to navigate the forum. Please read it carefully as it has links to the 12 week plan and a pictorial guide to finding all the Events and Challenges.

We hope it will also be a good place for you to connect with members who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice.

Best wishes

Anna. 😊

Welcome - and here’s to finding ‘you’ again soon! So many women (generally speaking) get caught up in supporting and caring for others that we just forget ourselves. Now that you have some headspace make it count. I only had a few pounds to lose but I had been trying on and off for ages - really since I retired 10years ago. I thought I could lose 3 lbs a week and do it all in one month max! It took me 4 months, half a pound a week, a few setbacks but now maintaining.

One of our fabulous admins will be along soon with the official welcome and links to important parts of the forum. The best bit however is everybody else- there is so much support and celebration and no blame when life gets in the way and the scales aren’t so kind. Get in the habit of popping by and joining in. Don’t think of it as a diet, think of it as finding the real you, learning new ways to enjoy life that don’t always involve food and having a laugh - some of the admins are very wicked with their pictures!!

Good luck!

I can relate to that. My husband had cancer so I had to make sure he got lots of calories, sadly so did I. He got well and I got bigger. Now we are firghtened it has come back again, he is having tests again, I changed our diet to keep his calorie intake up, but it didn't work for him, but I got bigger. So now I am looking after me first and helping him take the calories he needs in. I started at the beginning of December, so far 5lbs less of me. The very best of luck, this site is brilliant. I love the happiness challenge, it's keeping me positive.
