I have found this site very useful but not used it very much. I have now lost 4 stone and 3 1b . This time of year so difficult but practicing the word no! Counting the cals and trying to remain strong. My health is not great which does not help. Any way today i thought if I am going to post I must help others as well. Most important. I am going to a social tonight and everyone is having a Chinese takeway any suggestions I might take my own food (embarrassing) but who cares.

Morning Anneke2691

You have done so well with losing 4st 3lbs, that is great going. Sorry to hear your health is not great at the moment, hope it improves for you soon.

Enjoy your evening social tonight. Sorry can't help with the chinese takeaway as I've not had one for ages.

Firstly Anneke2691 congratulations on the amount of weight you've lost. Sorry to hear that your health could be better but then again I'm guessing life is a bit easier after losing that weight.

I still eat Chinese but similar to a buffet, I try doing it in moderation. Not easy I know. If you feel that the best thing for you is to take your own food then go ahead. We shouldn't be made to feel we can't eat in a way that is healthy for us. You look after yourself first.

Thank you so much for your encouragement. Not sure about Chinese yet may be half a portion !!

Half a portion is the sort of thing you can do.

What I do is think of the dish that I'm going to have then look it up online beforehand and there's usually a calorie allowance for a chinese portion. Take in to account the fact that it might be out a bit but at least you'll have a rough idea.

Good loss!!

Congratulations on a fantastic loss, well done! :)

Avoid anything fried (chicken/pork balls, fried rice, etc.) and look for things that are heavy on the vegetables. I believe soups are also good to go for in Chinese places.

I once brought my own lunch when we took our Brownies to McDonald's on an outing. I don't think they noticed.... But most places don't like you bringing in outside food and drink.

Good luck! :)

Fabulous loss Anneke2691 and well done for making the no word a good habit.

Sorry can't help with the Chinese takeaway but like you I would be tempted to take my own.

Cauliflower rice with shredded beef or chicken and maybe avocado/peppers/mushrooms. It would kind of look the same(ish) and be really tasty.

Whatever you decide to do enjoy!

Hi Anneke2691 ,

Many Congratulations on losing 4 stone and 3lb, that is brilliant!

Regarding your query about Chinese Takeaway Suggestions, there is an article in NHS Choices about this very thing:

NHS Choices article about ‘Healthier Take-aways’

nhs.uk/Livewell/men1839/Pag...

Chinese:

Anything that’s battered or marked as "crispy" on the menu means it’s deep-fried. Watch out for starters such as prawn crackers and spring rolls, because these are generally deep-fried. Anything in batter will be high in fat. Sweet and sour pork is usually battered.

Steamed dishes are the best option, but stir-fries are fine because they're usually lower in fat and include vegetables.

•Try to avoid: sweet and sour battered pork balls with special or egg-fried rice, prawn toast, spring rolls.

•Healthier options: crab and corn soup, steamed dumplings, steamed vegetables and plain boiled rice, steamed fish, chicken chop suey, Szechuan prawns.

Hope that's helpful, and enjoy your meal!

Zest :-)
