35 year old new mum who needs to lose at least 3 stone. I can normally lose extra weight when I put my mind to it, but all the midnight feeds (the baby, not me) and general lack of sleep have led me to the cookie jar. Need all the help I can get!

Hello and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum New-mummy82 😊

First of all, congratulations on becoming a Mummy ❤️ These are very special times and should be treasured. Remember it can take a while for our bodies to adjust to pregnancy and childbirth somplease be kind to yourself. Tiredness and sleep deprivation make us crave sugar and fatty foods, that’s biology, so don’t beat yourself up.

Planning nutritious meals for yourself is a priority, you can’t care for others if you don’t care for yourself. And in my opinion, good nutrition is the ultimate in self respect 😊

I'd like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out. If you just post a few words to introduce yourself and respond to others there, you'll soon break the ice. Here's the link

healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

You'll find all the information you need to navigate the forum in the header and a link to the 12 week plan, so please take the time to read it carefully. I highly recommend the Daily Diary where we all share our meal plans, and support each other in our healthy eating. 😊

Wishing you all the best

Anna

Hi @New-mummy82 :) Congratulations on giving birth to your baby! I assume you gave birth quite recently. I think it's really important to listen to your body and give it all the time it needs. Also I think you should really enjoy the time with your little one and don't stress yourself about losing weight. You will have plenty of time for that once your baby is a little older! And remember: it has taken 9 months to gain the weight ;)

As Anna has already said the thing you can already do is being more conscious about what you're eating and trying to make healthy choices!

Hi and welcome to the community!!

Welcome NewMum, whilst I have huge empathy for your tiredness, especially the midnight feeds you clearly want to make some changes.

Put the cookie jar out of reach and have some healthy snack prepared. Weighed out bags of nuts, carrot/cucumber sticks with hummus, cherry tomatoes, mashed avocado, ready chopped coconut etc.

However, do remember that you are a busy new Mum and you may need to give yourself a little more time to achieve your goals. You can exercise by pushing the buggy/pram and generally walking around with a baby in your arms.

Good luck, I look forward to seeing you around and hearing how you get on.

Hi new-mummy82 and welcome to the forum, all the advice given before me is valid and much of it from experience...

The only thing I would add is please do seek your GP or medical professional's advice if you are breastfeeding as your calorie values may be different from the general NHS BMI calculator's estimates... We want you to healthy and baby too..

Cheering you on to great motherhood and the best health possible 🎉🎉🎉
