Just wanted to remind you lovely lot about this lovely warming and low calorie vegetable.

Goes really well with all sorts of things, but I'm planning to enjoy some later in the week with some pan fried turkey steaks marinated in orange juice and ginger.

All the flavours of Autumn and the festive season!

Made a BIG pot (8 portions) and have frozen it.

Here's my recipe - 90 calories, 8 servings.

Red Cabbage -650g

Butter -15g

Muscovado, Light Brown Sugar -40g

Ground Nutmeg -¼ Tsp/0.75g

Red Wine Vinegar -3 Tbsps/45ml

Bramley Cooking Apples -350g

Ground Cloves -¼ Tsp/0.525g

Ground Cinnamon -¼ Tsp/0.75g

Sugar, White, Granulated, Average-15g

Onions -1 Med/180g

Garlic -2 Cloves/6g

Preparation:

Peel and core apple and chop into pieces. Finely shred the red cabbage. Peel and finely slice onions and garlic.

Place into a tight lidded casserole dish. Add the sugars, wine vinegar and spices. Mix thoroughly and dot the butter on the top.

Place into a pre-heated oven at 150 degrees for 2.5 hours, stirring every hour.

A good recipe, Pineapple! It's a lot like my Grandma's rotkohl (German red cabbage! ;) ). My Mom doesn't like it so she never made it. So it always reminds me of Grandma. Might have to add it to the menu over the weekend! :D

Are you sure only 90 cals pers erving?? I cooked the blood sugar diet red cabbage recipe yesterday, there's no sugar in it, olive oil instead of butter and comes out at 367 cals per serving and only takes 1hr to cook.

I used the food database I usually use and entered all of the ingredients. It makes 8 smallish portions (vegetable portion rather than a main course).

How much oil does the Diet Doctor recipe use? I was happy for this to take the cooking time - it had very little liquid. I've done a stove top version before, but I prefer this recipe....

Here are the figures!

The recipe I used comes out at 91 cals per serving for 8. This is with myfitnesspal, yours came out at 162 per serving.

2 tbsp olive oil

1 onion

1/2 red cabbage

150 ml veg stock

2 eating apples

1/2 tsp cumin seeds or 1/4 tsp allspice

4 tbsp balsamic vinegar

1 tbsp creme fraiche.

Sounds nice! Like the sound of the creme fraiche. Do you have a link to the recipe please?

Is this the recipe you followed?

dietdoctor.com/recipes/roas...

For just 2 servings, it tells you to use 3 tblsps of olive oil, which is 384 calories (or 192 calories per person!) before you've added anything else. The only fat I used was the 15g of butter (110 calories in total divided by 8 = 13 calories per head)

I've done a few of the Diet Doctor cabbage recipes - having one tonight actually, the stuffed cabbage casserole. But I never use the amount of oil or fat or cream they state - just sounds far too rich and sickly!

I only used 2 tbsp as one of them is for frying .the gammon, I never fry gammon always grill it.

Ooops, I'll take it back Pineapple, seems myfitness pal didn't divide the butter by 8, so even though it doesn't use sugar both recipes are approx same cals.
