Hi and welcome to the forum heatherbower firstly I would just like to say none of us on here are medically trained and can only go by our own experience :) There are members on here that have lost loads of weight by following the NHS 12 week plan

Yes it takes time and you have to work at it, but it is a lot better than having surgery in my opinion

The forum is very supportive and I would like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out, or re-starting.

If you just post a few words on the October Newbie Club thread to introduce yourself and respond to others there you will soon feel part of the club.

Follow this link to the Newbie club: healthunlocked.com/nhsweigh...

Please read all the information carefully, it is very useful and can be referred to whenever you want to check something.

It just remains for me to wish you well on your journey

:)

Welcome Heather. It sounds a bit hollow when I say sorry to hear about everything you're having to deal with but the sentiment is no less true. Forget the name calling (shameful) and remember that you are a great person full of potential to achieve your goals.

Cracker10 has provided you with a link to lots of great information which is essentially the key to your future. Do take your time to read as much as possible but also to DO the things you read.

Don't worry about trying to do it all at once but the trick is to nail one bit at a time to create a healthy lifestyle (not a diet), a new healthy way of managing your life.

Good luck and stay in touch, even if it's just regularly reading the lovely posts and replies here.

Hello and welcome heatherbower

You sounds as if you are in a very dark place and I really feel for you. I have been in a similar place, that viscous cycle of pain and ill health and frustration at the pounds going on. All I can say is take a deep breath, remind yourself that you are more than the number on the scales, and that you deserve to be happy and well. 😊

Weight loss is a juggling act, you need to reduce calories enough to burn fat but not too far or that leads to cravings as our bodies fight starvation. Exercise is important for everybody, but not essential for weight loss. It’s important to start slowly and gently, perhaps try to self refer to a Physio for advice on the best exercises for your condition.

The type of food you eat is also very important as you juggle your IBs and other health issues, could you ask to see a dietitian? In my experience they are far more knowledgeable than GPs about safe and healthy weight loss.

Wishing you well

Anna
