I have been suffering with chronic pain for 4 years now in the lower left quadrant in my abdomen. I can’t hardly walk so use a wheelchair to get around and I can’t use my left arm very much, nor can I really lift very much weight. I am on a LOT of medications to try and keep things under control. Since getting my wheels almost a year ago, I have been putting on more and more weight and I am absolutely hating it!! It’s making me physically sick as well as making me feel miserable!! Really would appreciate some help or tips and advice on how to start reducing the lard arse.
I am 5 foot 4 and currently weigh 11 and a half stone!! I need to drop 3 stone to get back to my target weight.

Hi and welcome to the forum Dinkz sorry to hear about your abdomen pain and arm, I am assuming your GP is keeping an eye on you and your medication (please note we are not medically qualified on here )
I would like to invite you to join our Newbie Club, which we hope will be a good place for you to connect with members, who are also just starting out, or re-starting.
If you just post a few words on the October Newbie Club thread to introduce yourself and respond to others there you will soon feel part of the club.
Heya, thank you for your comment. It’s really appreciated. The doctors have been keeping a very close eye on me and my medications for pain control as well as other conditions. Obviously I would still be seeking doctors help for any medical problems that may arise. I fully understand that this is just a place to get friendly advice and a support system for various different things and to make new friends with people who are going or have gone through the same or similar to myself.
Thank you! I would definitely have waaaaay more self confidence if I were back down to my normal weight. Ever since I was 17/18 I have been 8 and a half stone. I know not to expect to be that weight at almost 30 but as close as would be good. It’s just such a struggle when stuck in a wheelchair and unable to work out in the gym to help tone up and shed some weight.
I'm sorry to hear about your health problems and your pain. I know from my own experience, pain can be very debilitating.
The good news is that weight loss will definitely help with reducing your pain levels as well as making you feel better in general.
I have a disability which severely impacts on my mobility. I use a wheelchair outside of the house.
It is possible to lose weight without any exercise whatsoever, however, it will mean that you need to make more of an effort with regards to your diet - reducing calorie intake and portion sizes.
I started my weight loss journey at 14 stone - 5 and a half years ago (February 2012). I was 49 years old and had been trying to lose weight all of my life since the age of 9.
I managed to lose 4.5 stone in 2 and a half years through calorie counting and logging/weighing all of my food.
Then re-gained some, lost some again and have now managed to more or less maintain for the past 6 months.
BUT... ideally I would love to drop another stone and maintain there.
The one thing that I realised very early on in my journey was that I was just eating FAR TOO MUCH! I was a short, middle aged, sedentary female and I was eating the same as 5ft 9" active man (my now husband!).
No wonder I was piling on the weight!
Here are a few of my past posts which I hope you will find helpful and inspiring. I won't try and tell you that my journey was easy - and you'll see that there were many blips along the way, but 5 years down the line, I feel about 20 years younger than I did when I was lugging around 4 stone more.
Please do pop back to the forums and share your journey with us - we are here for you, day and night and happy to share your success or support you when you need it.
Thank you so much for all of this!! It’s absolutely wonderful and is going to help quite a bit!
I found it rather frustrating how you can find so much info on how to lose weight if you’re ‘normal’ but there is basically nothing out there for people with disabilities.
Hmmmm, should maybe start up a blog about life with a disability and what not. 😜
