Losing weight on my face, neck, legs and waist, but not my stomach??? (Dents)

Hello I have been working out for around 7 months now and I have been losing weight on the face, neck, legs and waist. Saying this I am seeing no change in my stomach area at all just dents in my stomach, this is making me really insecure and making me want to give up because of this, I need some advice of what to do to start losing more weight on my stomach. I go gym 2-4 times a week 1 hour a day and go on the cross-trainer for one hour as I am insecure to do nearly anything else. Is there any tips you can give me to lose weight on my stomach area.

Picture of how I look now, used to be much bigger.

Thank you for any advice you will be giving me today, have a good day!

You can't pin point fat it burns off in layers so you must have had more fat in your belly than anywhere else that's why it is not looking as if you have lost as much weight around your belly. Just keep at it and you should see a difference eventually. Your diet is the most important thing when you are trying to lose weight not the exercise that you do so i suggest you go look at what you are eating not what you do at the gym.

With eating I am okay at because I have cut down of how much I eat a day and started to eat alot of veg & fruits, I have also recently started to drink at least 9 bottles of water a day which makes me full so I do not eat big meals anymore.

The body can be quite frustrating at times and my weight loss followed a similar pattern. My face lost quite a bit first and my belly was the last to hold out but a fair wadge of it has gone now.

You're doing really well to lose weight and get out to the gym so don't give up. That belly will go.

Hi and welcome, Steve,

As has been said before, you can't target areas for fat loss, but you can do exercises that tone your abdominal muscles and strengthen your core. I've found that running has had the biggest effect on mine.

I would suggest mixing up your exercise routine, a lot of things can be done at home, away from prying eyes, if you feel a bit self-conscious :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Hi stevevella97 , there have been a few posts on the forum recently of a similar nature and I was wondering how far inside a healthy BMI are you?

Hi Steve, yes this can be frustating, I go gym and I was advised to combine cardio with the weight resistance machines, and concentrate on the problem areas, you should be able to get advice from the gym staff there too. I have noticed a difference with doing this on my problem areas. Please dont give up as you are doing so well, and don't be scared to move around at the gym and try out different machines as most people there are probably feeling like you are remember that! Good luck :).

It's frustrating isn't it. I think the answer is to look at people with beer bellies. You see people who drink a lot of beer and they can be quite skinny but have a massive belly. Of course I am no expert but have been trying to find the answer to this for a long time and it seems from all the scientific stuff that I have come across that this is caused by sugar. The low fat diets that are so much recommended, it seems, don't help with this because when you take the fat out of a product such as yoghurt, it tastes disgusting so you have to add a load of sugar. Eat too much sugar and it is converted to fat and stored in the belly. Eating too much sugar also upsets insulin levels which can lead to diabetes. This includes fruit juice and smoothies. Also bread, potato and pasta are converted to sugar very quickly and have the same effect.

Well that's the theory. I am having problems too. Belly fat is the hardest to shift and at the same time the most important to shift. In practise, I have discovered that I am an addict and have found that giving up added sugar is 50 times harder than giving up smoking, but am sure it can be done.

Am trying to eat just vegetables and proteins all in their natural form with nothing taken away or added - i.e. with all the fat and sugar that is already in them and just a little fat for stir frying. Plus no more than one piece of fruit a day. It is very hard to do if you are an addict. The evenings are the hardest

Yes, it will go. As other people have pointed out, you can't target a part of the body for fat loss. Because men start putting on weight on the belly, this is always the last to go. Someone else suggested running and this is definitely worked for me. I was 19kg overweight, almost all on my belly. It's almost all gone now and I have no fat anywhere else, so after another 2kg I won't need or want to lose any more weight. Hang in there!

Thank you all for replying to my post, I am going to take your suggestions and do them. Since Easter holiday is coming up I am hoping to go gym nearly all the time in the span of two weeks since I want to see how much weight I will lose if I go all week near enough. I am putting this into a test and if it goes well I will be doing that on a routine. Yes I know it's not all about gym and workouts, it's about the diet too I am also changing my diet up of what kind of stuff to eat in the morning, lunch and evening. If you have any questions about my diet don't ask because my mom buys the food and I just see whats in the fridge and shelves to make me something. Will be replying here to give another update of the weight changes I am going to do within the next three weeks. Once again thank you very much for your replies, has been very helpful <3
