Where do I start?

Hey there. Newbie here.

I'm Lola, aged 24.

I'm 5'3, roughly 24 stone. Dress size 22/24.

I can't say I've ever written my weight down before, nevermind about to post it online!

I am here to start my journey, its going to be a long and hard road but I am so determined to change. I am looking to lose about 10-15st. A hell of a lot, I know.

I've tried Slimming World more times than I can count. I've joined every gym in my city at least once in my lifetime. I swapped my meals for them stupid Slimfast shakes, I have tried slimming tablets, high brands, low brands. I even followed the trend and bought then Raspberry Ketone crapsules. Yes, that misspelling was intended. The point is, I feel like I need some starting tips. Especially when it comes to exercise.

I have started swimming, which I do really enjoy. If I can get myself in a swimming costume and avoid all mirrors. Sad, I know. But if I am going to face the fear of the gym, I'd like to look like I know what I'm doing!

If anyone who is currently going through their own transformation or who already has would like to give me some starting tips, I would massively appreciate it. Anything that anyone feels would be good advice, even as tiny as it may be, please please let me know.

Thank you.

😙

One thing I can let you know which would be good for you to know of is that when I first joined I had always struggled with losing weight and was often putting on weight even though I hardly ever ate much and never knew why. The reason this happened I found out on here was because I didn't eat much. If you don't eat enough calories your body thinks that you are starving it and turns what you do eat into body fat to keep it going. This weighs more than eating the extra calories does so it stops you from losing weight and sometimes puts weight on instead. To stop this from happening to you have a look on the NHS bmi calculator for how much you should be eating to be able to lose weight. Good luck with your journey.

Hello princess Iola

I am so glad that you have joined this forum and have made a decision to lose weight. The most important thing is that you have the rest of your life ahead of you and you want to live it is happily and healthily as possible.

My tip for losing weight is to cut out bread pasta rice and potatoes as well as sugar. If you do that you will automatically reduce your calorie intake and keep your blood sugar level evening. Drink plenty of water. Make sure that you have only healthy food in the house so that you cannot eat chocolate sweets biscuits crisps or fizzy drinks on a whim .

It is important to keep a note of what you eat and make this an honest note so that you can calculate your calorie intake it is surprising how the calories soon add up with a snack here and a chocolate bar there and a fizzy drink et cetera. Alcohol is full of calories and if you cut it out entirely you will find this also reduces your weight.

Try to increase your activity. The cheapest way is by walking and if you regularly walk 10,000 steps today as well as swim you will find this helpful.

It's great that you are facing up to the problem and I am sure you will succeed. I'm looking forward to hearing of your first weighing in a weeks time when you will have lost some weight . Don't look too far ahead but just take it one day at a time. You will succeed best wishes

Hi, welcome! I was 23 stone this time last year and now I have lost 6 stone I am so much happier. Losing weight is really worth it. I am losing weight by cutting out processed carbs like rice, bread, potato. I cook meals from scratch and eat simple food. I don't calorie count as this makes me obsess about food, I just know I am eating less . You need to make a lifestyle change which you can sustain. Lucky you you are so young. I wish I had done it 20 years ago. Good luck! I was 22/24 top 24 trousers. Now I can get in any size 18s and am going to be in size 16 by Christmas. It's a joy I can tell you. Good luck, keep posting!!
