Just started to count calories! I always think I know -roughly - how many I eat in a day but I don't count meals forensically - e.g. How many calories in the home made lamb hot pot yesterday (although it was delish and I had two green veggies as well) anyway, breakfast today was 250 (albran (am I the only person who likes it?) full cream milk, 4 chopped dried apricots and half teaspoon of sugar) should keep me going until lunch - fish today!! I'll let you know what tonight's total is!! ( hope its 1000 or thereabouts!!)

And counting.....
well done for getting to calorie counting.
Why not try posting your menu on Daily Diary, you will find it so useful in terms of ideas and finding out what others do.
I like all bran too - but it has too many carbs for me these days, well done on the full fat milk front.
I love allbran! Not had it for years though.
You might like to check your reccommended calorie intake using the NHS BMI calculator. You suggest that you're aiming for about 1000 cals per day, which would almost certainly be too low. Its really important to eat enough otherwise you won't lose weight - I know that sounds a bit mad but its true and there's lots of info about that on here.
Good luck!
Thank you, I looked at the bmi calculation and it looks as if I should be aiming for 1200 -1300 calories a day - difficult to tell really as it doesn't think I am overweight so I had to fiddle a bit! So, an extra 200 calories to play with! What shall I squander it on!!
Lovely!
I have the same problem as within healthy bmi now so it doesnt give you a number. You can also calculate your daily TDEE (what you burn to maintain current weight) and then subtract 500 cals. There are other people who know much more about this than I do!!
the TDEE (never heard of it so thank you) gives me a "normal"rate of 1629 calories with moderate exercise - I walk a lot - so 1200 calories to try to lose my tyre would be about right! Hey ho - daren't get near the biscuit jar though, as 200 extra 'free' calories just would not be enough!!!
and there are much better ways to use 200 calories. Avocado, nuts, double cream - basically healthy fats which give you a lovely satiated feeling.
