Hi I am 55 and classed as obese I cannot do much cause my disability I have to be careful with my spine but I do walk a little I cannot walk far as I claps a lot I just want to get back to my proper weight any ideas please and thank you

Hi and Welcome to the weight loss forum.
Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance. Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.
Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.
Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.
We have daily weigh in's so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.
You may notice that members have a grey box next to their name, these are achievement badges. All new members have a "newbie" badge to begin with.
Please note if you are using the new HU app it does not have all the forums features on it, so we suggest you use the full website version.
To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

I also struggle with mobility but weight loss is much more about what you eat (or not eat!) than exercise. 😊

This is a friendly place, and there's always plenty of encouragement, support and pom pom waving going on! (You'll get to read more about the pom poms in due course!)
There are many of us here who have some sort of barrier to losing weight easily - but the great thing is, it's entirely possible without any exercise whatsoever! In fact, successful weight loss is only achieved about 80% through diet and only 20% exercise.
I suppose you could say that those of us who are unable to exercise, or whose exercise ability is compromised in some way just have to give it an additional 20%!
I started my weight loss journey at 14 stone - 5 and a half years ago. I was 49 years old and had been trying to lose weight all of my life since the age of 9.
I started my journey at the end of February 2012, and managed to lose 4.5 stone in 2 and a half years through calorie counting and logging/weighing all of my food.
Then re-gained some, lost some again and have now managed to more or less maintain for the past 6 months.
BUT... ideally I would love to drop another stone and maintain there.
I have a disability which makes exercise difficult. I have little mobility and use an electric wheelchair mostly outside of the house. The one thing that I realised very early on in my journey was that I was just eating FAR TOO MUCH! I was a short, middle aged, sedentary female and I was eating the same as 5ft 9" active man (my now husband!).
No wonder I was piling on the weight!
Look on my profile at some of my earliest past posts which I hope you will find helpful and inspiring. I won't try and tell you that my journey was easy - and you'll see that there were many blips along the way, but 5 years down the line, I feel about 20 years younger than I did when I was lugging around 4 stone more.

If you could swim that is a great form of exercise which doesn't put strain on your body and tones lots of muscles. Hope you have a swimming pool near you to give it a try

Hello i too am obese and have 4stones1lb to lose to get to my upper healthy weight. I have physical disability too...fibromyalgia and M.E. this forum has really helped me be motivated not to eat sweets chocolate cakes n to cut down on bread consumption. Sum1 suggested to me about swimming so iv found out what aqua fit classes r on at my local pool to go to. If u want it ul do it.ul get loads motivation n suggestions on this forum. 😊💛💚💛💚
