I want to lose 3 stone healthily

I am looking to lose around 2 stone in a focused but healthy way combining diet and exercise. Like many people I get into exercise mode (gym, classes, cycling etc) for a month or two but when I lose momentum/motivation the weight piles back on as my diet hasn't changed. To lose 2 stone would make a huge difference to my confidence and the clothing I could buy.

Can anyone help me with dietary advice that has worked for members - I want to cut out the rubbish (fatty, sugary etc) but not deny myself the odd treat and I need portion control as that has gone out the window in terms of self constraint.

Thank you in advance.

Hello Vetty123 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum

Your weight loss plan sounds perfect, healthy meals with less junk but occasional treats 😊

Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.

The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you. Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news

Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate

The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page. And if you just want to chat, to say hello or share any news or struggles then look out for What's Happening Today thread.

You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask

Best wishes

Anna

You're right, 2 stone can make a huge difference to confidence, and I can vouch for that first hand. I now feel ten years younger than I did 3 years ago.

In 2014, I was 12st. Today BMI 22 , 9st 7. I have been maintaining for 2 yrs. It took me ten months to lose 2st, slowly, steadily by calorie counting, portion control and more walking. Nothing too onerous, I didn't ban any particular foods just had the high calorie ones less often and in smaller quantities. Planned meals to include more mediterranean veg, more fish, more eggs but still allowed myself dark chocolate , couple of squares a night, and small glasses of wine 125ml, not 175. ( or better still single gin+slimline) . I used myfitnesspal as a calorie counter/ food diary and slowly steadily 1pound at a time dropped off.

The Nhs 12 week plan also works well for many, and it is proven that a slower regime works better, you don't go hungry, the metabolism adjusts better, and you're much more likely to keep the weight off longterm. Its a lifestyle change, not "a diet".

The support on this site is fantastic, everyone on here has ( or did have ) weight issues so you'll be in good company!
