Just weighted my self in my kitchen and im 18stone 6lb, i know its probably more than that on some decent scales. Wow im actually in shock, that i fooled my self into thinking all the crap i had on holiday and not training would be okay, but as part of the course im doing, i had to look at the nhs calculator thing for bmi and it said for me to be in the middle of my healthy weight range i need to lose 9 stone 5lb.

That's a whole person, a whole freaking person! Im two people!! I can't make excuses anymore, i cant keep blaming the way i feel on healthy issues, but im carrying the weight of an adult person around with me everytime i move, no wonder i feel like rubbish! I see her now, this other person, im visualising her clinging to my back whispering all the negative thoughts and feelings i have and shes getting bigger, but I'm going to fight her, I am going to run even though, shes there clinging on, weighting me down. I will make her smaller, and as i do, i will feel lighter not only physically but mentally too.

Hi Marcie-J

What an inspiring way to look at the additional weight you are carrying and with all that positivity I'm sure you will put her in her place 😊😊

I can't wait until I get down to your weight. 😂 I know how overwhelming it can feel, though. I try not to focus on the bigger picture for now. I don't even know what my ideal weight is, nor have I set a goal weight.

This is a good development for you. I've learned that taking responsibility gives me power. I know that I have control over my weight, and that what I put in my mouth influences that. Sounds stupid, but in the past, I've had the attitude that weight loss was mission impossible, and that I basically had no control over it. It was just who I was, the fat girl. One of many effects being obese for most of your life has on your psyche. 😅

Knowing that I have that control over myself is empowering, and that's the message I got from your post! I think this is positive, though try not to beat yourself up about past mistakes too much (I'm guilt of this). Rather, focus on how you've made the first steps at reversing those mistakes.

Hi and welcome Marcie :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), or in the drop down on the 'Posts' page (it says 'arrange by'). Read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the NHS BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

To the right of the HOME page (bottom on a mobile), you'll find Events. In there, you'll find links to our daily Weigh-in's (you will choose just one day per week), our Daily Diary, where we post our menu and exercise plans, for accountability, advice and support and our “What's happening today” thread, where we pop in for a chat.

Be aware, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

I also have the daunting task of shedding half my body weight and I really like your way of looking at it. I've been setting myself small goals - a half stone target feels a lot more manageable than the total number, which is still there in the background but I'm just concentrating on reaching my two stone target for now. I'm going to try and think of it as shedding my negative half too 👍

Small manageable goals are a good idea, as the end goal is a long way off yet.
