Could anyone tell me are these personal health monitors reliable or hit and miss on the information that they collect, I see the prices range dramatically and I'm not prepared to over spend on something that could be unreliable.I just want something to give me the basics I need to use in support of my twelve week plan and beyond. "Fit bit" and Garmin in the region of £80-£100 seem to have good reviews, however what is the general consensus.
As I have mentioned in my previous post although I'm active at home the daily grind sees me behind a desk for at least 8 hours of my working day with sporadic intervals throughout this period of mild activity.
Thanks in anticipation.

Thanks, I did briefly scan through the topics but was looking for a specific heading, I'll have a more in depth look through each topic to find this section.
Hi, Thanks for that and I have had a look in there, but don't find a topic on monitors them selves, it seems to be more referenced to fit buddies, or comparing result from their individual weight loss plans, but I'll keep looking.
Hi. I use a free app on my Samsung phone (Samsung Health) which tracks calories for each meal (using searchable lists of calories in different foods you can just tick to add - or you can also enter calories manually from packets etc) and also records morning/afternoon/evening snacks, also logs steps taken and amount of time active each day, it records your weight each day (entered manually of course - it doesn't work as a set of scales by standing on the phone Ha Ha!). It also has a whole range of other optional features (I also track blood pressure for example). Each day it sets you targets for the day and sends motivational messages. It also links to weather forecasts to say if it is likely to be dry at your usual excersising time ! For example, my targets for today include 60 minutess of activity and at least 6000 steps. It congratulates you each time you reach a target !
All this for free. I see no need to buy an expensive gadget as this seems to do all I need. Why not try some of these free apps before splashing out the cash on a monitor which might not be necessary.
(I'm Scottish after all, so every penny is a prisoner!)
Scottish??? when I lived up there (quit a few years ago) the Scottish were always very generous, mind you I did have to show my passport when I crossed the border from England . Seriously though thanks for the advice, I'll have to see what works best on my HTC mobile and give that a go! Thanks for the reply and advice.
Have you tried MyFitnessPal which is a freebie (although you can pay more for extra functionality). It will track your exercise and calories and can be very useful.
