I haven't posted for so long on this forum. Around end of July, I had so much crap going on, I had just let food take over, I was binge eating and eating out constantly but I'm so glad that I overcame that period to go onto the ketogenic diet.
The ketogenic diet is "High Fat- Moderate protein- Low carbs" I am currently in ketosis and went from 13 stone 11 lbs to 13 stone 2lbs in 12 days! Eating 75% fats, 25% protein and 5% carbs (around 20g carbs a day)
Ketosis is when your body switches from using the carbohydrates as fuel, to using the fat you eat and body fat as fuel as you have no carbs for your body to use up.
This is the most committed and will power that I've ever had to a diet and I really see this as a longtime lifestyle. My diet is primarily fats, olive oil, coconut oil, coconut flour, eggs, bacon, whipping cream, cheese, meats, olives and I'm just so happy with the weightloss and my commitment to this.
I REALLY researched into ketosis and read a tonne of apps and watched 100s of YouTube videos. I feel so empowered now and in control of my eating. I cook a meal everyday now and have not ate any packaged/processed junk foods in 12 days.

Glad you have found a healthy way to lose your weight and you sound so focused with it. Well done on losing 9lbs so far that is brilliant going. Keep up the good work.
Why do you think steph does not count sugar as carbs? I follow this diet as well. As a type 2 diabetic it is the diet that brings down blood sugar and keeps it down.
The problem with the nhs guide is that for diabetics the amount of carbs is way too high.
As an added bonus, ax well as low blood sugar levels I have lost nearly 2 stone since june.
The keto/ lchf diet is not for everyone, but like steph I did a lot of research and find the science behind this way of eating very compelling.
But really the best diet is one that you stick with. Unless you are diabetic!
Ahh. Sorry, didn't read the list above the post properly. You are quite right. That is a bit odd. Perhaps steph could explain. And I agree with all you have written.
Carbs are not safe and we should not be basing our meals around them.
Sorry to hear about your mum. That must have been a terrifying experience for a small child. I hope that you have been able to come to terms with it as an adult. X
This is great that you have found something that works for you.
I just want to make people aware that this might not be the best programme for weight loss if, like me, you have ever suffered from an eating disorder.
A few years ago I followed diets that restrict food groups and I had a flair up of bulimia. I hadn't suffered for over 20 years! Restricting food groups made me go crazy for binging when I was 'out of the zone'.
After 12 months of counseling I learned that regular eating, not excluding 'bad' foods and lowering my expectations as far as body image works for me.
The ketogenic diet (well lifestyle really) is simply magic! Why everyone isn't doing it is beyond me (plus ... sugar will literally kill you in the end)
