I'm new here and would like to say 'helloooo'. I thought I could try this as a way to eat better, get more active and loss weight, and KEEP IT OFF. I'm not looking for a quick fix but just wondered if anyone has stats for a sensible goal for weight loss? I was very active in my youth, got more sedentary jobs and the weight piled on. Now I've had a hip replacement and need to look after my new joint and the other one, and my knees!
I cant help thinking 'here I go again' and as for calorie counting 'arrgghhhh'......

Most people on here are healthy eating and calorie counting (check the nhs bmi calculator) it gives a generous calorie allowance (my fitness pal app) counts the calories for you and its free.
Realistically 1-2lb per week is sensible weight loss
Making small changes are easier to sustain, and don't forget to reward yourself for all your mini goals
Hello LL-11 and welcome to the Weight Loss Forum 😊 As Katmt has said, 1-2lbs a week is recommended for sensible weight loss, it's actually Not really possible to lose actual fat any faster. I share your fear of calorie counting but it really is important. Have a look at the Daily Diary (in Events) for help if you need it.
Here are a few suggestions on how to get the most out of the forum. Please note if you are using the new HU App many of these features are not available so I suggest you use the full website version.
The first place to look is at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread first and move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you ☺
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news ☺
Have a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as many people have had success with it. Also use the BMI checker to find your target calories, it's important to eat enough. This was a major turning point for me, realising I could eat anything I wanted as long as the calories are accounted for ☺
Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate ☺
The forum also have group weigh-ins every day, as well as a new Daily Diary, if you wish to take part. The posts can always be found in the Events section on the 'home' page ☺
You'll notice a grey box next to people's names, these are achievement badges, and as a new member you have a 'Newbie' badge. We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too. If you have any questions please just ask ☺
Hi LL-11, hope you are enjoying the forum, I joined yesterday, so welcome from a fellow newbie. I think the guys are right 1 - 2 lbs are probably right, but what I have decided to do is to set my self mini goals. My first mini goal is to lose 7lbs. I have not set myself a time limit, but I have something to achieve that seems like it can be in reach, rather than thinking I have to lose 6 stones! Hope that makes sense. Kath x
I know what you mean about the aargh for calorie counting LL-11 , but I've become a convert! I was losing weight by healthy mindful eating but it was really slow, about a lb a month, since I've started calorie counting it's been about 1lb a week. I eat at the generous end of my recommended calorie range so I expect at some point this will slow down again and I'll have to reduce calories further or be very patient, but I think I'd be more likely to give up if I felt deprived or constantly hungry, or didn't have energy for exercise so Id rather eat more and lose slowly. Some people do very well on a low carb diet and find they don't have to count calories as protein and fat keep them satiated so they naturally keep under their calorie allowance so that might suit you, it's about finding what will be sustainable or you long term, good luck 😀
