Hi Lissa-lee

Welcome to the weigh loss forum.

I do walking and use a exercise bike but I take it that both those may not be suitable for you so I hope some of our members will be able to answer your question better than me!

Take a look at the Welcome Newbie post in the Pinned post section at the right hand side or at the bottom if your on a mobile. Have a look at the nhs 12 week plan, many members have had success following this plan. Use the BMI checker to work out your daily calorie allowance.

Have a look at the Daily Diary which you can find on the Home page in Events. It is where all the members are sharing their daily plans on what they are eating and any exercise they are doing. This thread will give you some ideas on how to start.

Below the Pinned posts are the Topics where members share a range of weight related subjects.

Take your measurements at the start together with a photo so you can see the changes on the days the scales don't move.

We have daily weigh ins so why not come along and join us today. You can find the weigh ins on the Home page in the Events section on the right. Just click on the post in Events and record your start weight and any loss/gain or maintain for the week.

To get the most of the forum be active, share tips, recipes and experiences. Read some of the posts they are very motivating.

Have a good first week.

Welcome to the forum. I am losing weight for my wedding although my fiancé and I haven't set a date yet. I am following Slimming World but I am weighing in at my mum's house instead of going to classes because I am saving for my wedding and I am in the process of moving. I have lost 4lbs in the last 3 weeks. I like this forum and find it useful. I also like the support I get from other members as well as family and friends

Welcome Lisa-Lee, that's a lot you've got on your plate.

The good news, is that whilst exercise will aid weight loss, it isn't an integral part of it. There are many different diets but managing portion control will allow you to lose weight.

I don't know enough to be specific about any exercise that you may find 'doable' but swimming can be a way forward when managing pain.

Good luck!

Hi Lissa-lee well done for taking active steps to change your weight and Heath. My best advice would be for you to ask your GP or specialist nurse for exercise advice... Then work within your comfortable range without over doing any of it.

Cheering you on 🎉🎉🎉

Hi Lissa-lee although exercise is a little better to help you there are some people who are in wheelchairs and people like me who also don't do much exercise or some only do walking as their exercise but still manage to lose weight. It does take a bit of extra time but it does still work. It is up to you with what you want to do but hopefully if you speak to your GP you will still get a bit of advice for best thing to do. Good luck.

Hi Lissa-Lee and welcome to the forums.

Exercise is important for losing weight but diet has a lot to do with it as well. As you have a number of health conditions which could be impacted by exercise, I would personally advice that you ask your GP, practice nurse, consultant whoever is in charge of your care for advice.

Hi Lissa-lee and welcome to the forum.

I have 2 discs out at the bottom of my spine, arthritis, fibromyalgia, IBS among others and I bought myself a fitband and gradually increased the number of steps I did a day. To start off I was only able to do the lower 100's but over the last year I have increased it and now I am doing about 6000 steps a day, still using 2 walking sticks but it is a lot easier now as I have got fitter.

So maybe you could try just doing a few extra steps a day, if you have a fibro flare, rest for a couple of days and then try again.

Hope this helps :)
