Hi Anita. Great for you to have made the decision to join the forum. I'm new too. It's the end of week 1 for me tomorrow, so I'll be weighing myself in the morning. Bit worried as its been Easter week, am I mad or what starting this week? Anyway, not expecting much as I have fallen off the wagon two days out of seven, but we'll see. I'm doing the 12 week nhs programme. I find it really helpful reading and responding to the posts on this site. Hole you do too. Good luck 🤗

Hi and welcome, Anita :)

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.

Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.

We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.

Be advised, that the HU app doesn't give you access to all of our important features, so we advise that you use the full website page.

We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.

It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey :)

Oh your in good company here mummaib , a lot of us have been dieting for many years. That is partly where we have all gone wrong. We don't need a diet, we need a life change, a new way of eating healthily. This forum is full of support and advice. I have found it helpful to write everything down and to plan ahead. I am following the NHS 12 week plan and calorie counting. Not everybody calorie counts, you have to find what works for you. Set your self small goals as the bigger picture can sometimes be too much to aim for in one go. Celebrate all your small goals and reward yourself with non-food treats. Keep posting and tell us how you are getting on. Good luck.

Hi there!

You have found the right place; nothing really worked for me either.

I have found that logging all my food has been key: I finally knew exactly what my calorie intake was and saw the effect of my efforts to control that.

Weekly weigh-ins have given me focus, especially recently as my weight loss slowed and I approached my goal.

Remember, you are playing the long game, so if you have a slip up remind yourself you get a whole new day every 24hrs to try again 😊

Hello mummaib welcome and I am so glad your friend got you to sign up for the twelve weeks. I am repeating week six as you know I've just come back from holiday so got to get back on track. See you Tuesday and try walking everywhere especially to town.

Diets never used to work for me either, but I found out after starting here that the reason for me never losing weight before was because I wasn't eating enough calories in the first place. Because of this my brain was telling my body that I was starving it and turns everything I ate into body fat to keep it going instead. Body fat weighs more than calories so I was always putting weight on. When I was on diets I ate less and couldn't lose anything. Now I eat somewhere between the amount the bmi index tells me to eat and I am finally losing weight. I know it sounds weird, eating more and losing weight but it is working for me. Do make sure you are eating enough as well.
