Healthy Swaps.

I have swapped bread for Nairns Oatcakes each are 39 cals the cheese variety are lovely. Are these a good swap re fat etc., I am trying to find healthy swaps that taste good and are great nutrition. I may be wrong but if these are good they are a real boost to a low cal or homemade veg soup.

I've swapped potatoes for sweet potatoes and butternut squash.

I've got round the alcohol by having sparkling water until I lose the weight then I will just have the odd glass of red wine.

I have a jelly each night as a low cal treat sometimes with a little fruit.

I don't eat cheese yet like cheese flavour in the Nairns oatcakes.

I bulk up my plate with veg etc.,

Does anyone else have any diet lifesavers ?

The oatcakes are great, I have them as a snack when I fancy crisps

I swap my bread for protein bread ( Livlife is top one as it provides 1/4 carbs of normal bread and more protein) It tastes exactly the same. Also in the morning first thing I do is to have a green smoothie ( spinach, kale, parsley, cucumber, kiwi, cilantro - I don't necessarily have all of them but a mix)

Drink plenty of water through the day to keep yourself hydrated and all lemon if you like it to it.

Green tea is also a super star, I used to a eat a lot due to having a crash from the coffee but no longer drinking that now

I swap out to oatcakes too but please don't eat too many of them or you will defeat the object! I am T2 diabetic so am careful with all carbs. I eat new potatoes and sweet potatoes rather than the big starchy old potatoes.

As with everything its all a case of moderation, there is nothing wrong in factoring in the odd glass of red wine and also be careful about portion sizes. Don't think because you are bulking up on veg etc and have swapped to lower GI carbs that you can eat as many as you want because it could sabotage your weightloss, eat off smaller plates too, that really helps.

Thank you. How many oatcakes do you think would be OK for weight loss. I currently eat about 5 per day at 39 cals th cheese Nairns variety. It started as one to soup but it's creeped up to 5 per day. I increased because I was only eating 900 to a 1000 cals per day. I'm having aroun 1200 cals. Thanks for the advice.

Well 5 oatcakes are around 200 calories so not too bad, just be careful what you put on them. You can still have bread if you want it, just count it all in.
