I am now 12 and a half stone. I need to lose 2stone or maybe a bit more. I have just turned 50 and have recently put on weight. I recently got a dog and have started walking but I know I need to control what I eat and drink but I don't seem to manage it. I need motivation and diet advise

Many people have been successful with the 12 week plan, if that's something that you'd like to do. Don't forget to take initial measurements and photos, as it's a great way of seeing just how far you've come, especially when the scales aren't co-operating fully
Wishing you all the very best with your weight loss journey
Hi, I'm similar to you, just 50 and the weight' s been creeping up over the years, I've decided to do something about it now ,rather than have health problems later on ..I've never really done calorie counting in the past, it is tedious but really helpful to know exactly how much I'm eating, and what! I've started using MyNet Diary which is a free app you can download to a mobile or tablet. It is an easy way of monitoring what you eat each day and helps calculate calories for you. As well as reminding you to exercise!! I found it helpful to see how the snacks and cups of tea mount up! Off shopping now to buy lots of vegetables ! Good luck, you've taken first step and that can be the hardest!🐶
Yes, I'd recommend calorie counting - boring though it is!
If you count your calories, you will lose weight. People who do it strictly lose weight whatever their age. This is the only way to eat without fooling yourself about what you are taking in.
I am in my fifties, and have lost 2.5 stones, at a rate of 1-2lbs a week. When I stick to my calorie allowance the weight comes off, and when I binge I stay steady, or gain if I'm really undisiplined.
So there is no reason why someone over 50 can't lose weight. ignore anyone who tells you otherwise - they are just jealous!
Also, portion control and your diet is 90% of weight loss, exercise is the cherry on the cake. It will help you feel better, be more toned, and maybe shift a little extra, but it won;t be a mjaor factor in weight loss in and of itself. When I diet and gym, I lose a quarter of half a pound a week more than when I just diet.

Hi
Getting a dog is a bonus, long walks with him/her and honest calorie counting on the 12 week plan is my suggestion. One is a pain and the other a joy, but both are tools to achieve your dreams.
Go for it! We are happy to support and encourage you.

Thanks. I was with my gp today so I can get referred to the gym and have a personal trainer for a small group of people with some problems mine is leg injury and budging disk in back. I lost 4 lbs simply by cutting down and cutting out WKD. I am determined to succeed this time
