Hi, pretty new here but would be interested in hearing from those who have 5 or more stone to lose. I have always been on a diet and as a result am bigger than ever. I am 50 in 2 years and I need to tackle this now - I really do not want to be fat at 50!!

Hi Pudwood16 :)

Welcome to the forum!! I think you will really like it here. :)

I have 6 stone (at least) to lose and I am just over half way to achieving that; I recently lost 3 stone - so this is achievable !! You can do this if you put your mind to it. The NHS plan is wonderfully simple but it works! Trust it but mostly trust yourself. ♥♥

Good luck lovely!! :D

Sazkia ♥ :)

Hi Pudwood16

I, like yourself, have a further 5 stone to lose. Currently sitting at just under 16 stone, but recently after having my two daughters (just under 14 months between them!!) come down from 18 and a half stone. It is achievable.

To make it more manageable, stop thinking of it as 5 stone. Remember this: it is a marathon and not a sprint. Break it up into half stone goals. For example, by Christmas you would like to have lost 7lb. Anymore is a bonus but it is an achievable target.

Read other members posts, on the main menu there is a seperate drop down menu where you can search within the forum for posts relating to something specific. Everyone here is in the same boat, we all want to better ourselves.

Educate yourself on foods and nutrition and try to get a little more active (take the dog out for a walk/visit a friend and walk to the local park/take the stairs/workout at home etc)

I have found these last few weeks that meal planning has been vital to success personally. Is there anything specific that you find you struggle most with?

I downloaded the my fitness pal app which lets me total up my calories and log my steps and exercise each day. A lot of people here are currently doing the NHS twelve week plan and I have read a lot about the success they have had, not only losing weight but also maintaining that loss. I myself have taken the brave steps into doing the couch to 5 k! I'm just at the end of week 1, but goodness me, I feel better for just getting out and focusing on something. Good luck and everyone will be around to support you.

Aw thanks, I will be 48 in 2 weeks. I have lost 3 stone gradually over the past 2 years but have a further 9 to lose too. It just feels like a mountain.

Hi Pudwood. Me too. I'm 48 as well and have 13 stone + to lose. Half the battle for me is that I have to be in the right frame of mind. I have had a couple of successful spells where I have lost more than 10 stone each time but stopped and put more on. First time I did a well known low card diet but I developed some strange symptoms and felt awful so stopped. Second time I did another well known Scottish based diet club and lost 11 stone. I then went through a really difficult period in my life and suffered from depression. I ate to try and make me feel better but as the weight went back on I felt worse. I'm now doing reasonably well again and feel as if this is going to be a success. I'm motivated and positive and finally in a good place. The difference this time is that I've totally changed my outlook on my eating. I'm no longer dieting. I'm making the right healthy choices. The word diet to me suggests restriction and that makes the cravings worse until it gets to the point where you can't take any more and the diet is out the window and old habits creep back. Soon the diet is a thing of the past. As I approach 50 I seriously need to change my approach or I won't see 60. I am under no elusions how difficult this is going to be but I'm not focusing on the end of the road, I'm just looking at that few feet in front of me and plugging on. Eventually the end of the road will be in sight. I trust my eating now. I'm watching protein, carbs and fat and I'm exercising. I know that if I eat less calories than I burn then I'm going to lose weight. I'm going to the gym and started a strength program. Going to the gym. I never thought I'd utter those words but I really enjoy it. As of today I've lost 50 pounds. My advice would be to plan your meals a week in advance. Only buy what you need. Write everything down and be honest with yourself. Small steps, you can do it.

Hi kenny, I totally understand what you mean. If I use the word diet, then eat something I shouldn't, I end u bInge eating because I am starting the diet again tomorrow. I end up eating for the sake of it. However if i tell myself that I can eat anything I want, then I find that I make far healthier choices. I enjoy the feeling of losing weight and find it encourages me but my biggest downfall is meal planning, this is an area I really need to focus on. Good luck x

Welcome to the forum, Pudwood16, I am glad you have found us.

I joined last year and have lost 8stone 5lbs to date, with just another 11lbs to get to goal.

So, it can be done, just go for it, try every day to do the best you can, eat healthily, move about as much as you can and think positive.

I look forward to following you on your journey and seeing you succeed!

I started back in Jan with about 8/9 stone to lose. I'm roughly half way now having lost 4 1/2 stone. Still wanting to lose about the same again. I really didn't think i would be able to do it. I've been on diets pretty much all my adult life but something was different this time.

I think the key is finding a happiness and contentment about yourself first and accepting the way you are. In my experience people who are not confident with their body and want to lose weight tend to be negative towards themselves. I heard a quote once "talk to yourself like you would to someone you love" that's stuck with me.

Anyway, motivation is hard but try to think of your goal in midway goals little chunks at a time which will all add up to that final goal.

You can do it! Good luck!

Thank you. I too have been dieting my whole life, in fact under a doctors advice my mum took me to my first slimming club when I was 12 yrs old. I recently tried the metabolic weight loss plan but it is very restrictive, no carbs at all and I find that I fancy stuff cos I know I can't have it. I certainly can't imagine living the rest of my life without carbs. I really just want to eat normally but I don't know what that is now as my view has always been controlled by some sort of diet rules. I'm hoping to just regain the power to eat a healthy balance e of foods with occasional treats and hope that it works for me.

Well done on your weight loss, keep going x
