We spent the first week of May cruising through the Norwegian Fjords. When we got back, I weighed 17 st 5 lb, the heaviest I had ever been.
Then, mid-June, I accidentally got involved with the BBC GetInspired Challenge, as an ambassador. The aim was to go for a daily 'hike' and increase my distance from the 500 m I could manage at the beginning, to 5 km. I didn't quite make it to 5k but by mid-July, I was pretty close and the exercise made me feel much healthier.
After some discussion with my husband, we both decided to start the NHS Choices plan and make a concerted effort to lose weight. We started on 1st August and on day 1, I weighed 16 st 12 lb.
We have just completed week 12 and I now weigh 15 st 2.6 lb, so I've lost 1 st 9.4 lb whilst on the plan and 7 lb before I started, totalling 2 st 2.4 lb. My husband has also lost well over 2 st and we are both exercising regularly now and really enjoying it.
Food-wise, we realised quite early on that we mostly eat the right things but our portion sizes were too big. I also have a weakness for chocolate but so long as it's in moderation, I'm still enjoying some. So our next step is to stop counting calories but just continue eating the same way we have been on the plan. We'll monitor our weight and if we stop losing, we'll go back to counting cals again.
I have found the weekly weigh-ins and the challenges really motivating, so thanks for doing those. I'm hoping to lose about another half a stone by Christmas.
