Hi Helga57,

Welcome to the Weight Loss NHS forum, and I hope you enjoy being part of this community. Please have a look at our Welcome Newbie post - it's in the Pinned posts area (right-hand-side of the homepage - or at the bottom if you're accessing via a mobile device).

Join in with anything you like the look of, and I'd like to wish you success with your weight loss goals. The NHS 12 week plan is really good, so worth a look.

Lowcal :-)

Hello, waist measurements by height, bmi takes no account for muscle either, just check first!

Relook at portion sizes first if you are overweight and look at stuff

Hello Helga57 😊

Middle age definitely makes weight loss more difficult but not impossible 😊 As Diana says, waist measurement is important as well as bmi (which is only an indicator)

If you are maintaining your current weight then you just need to reduce portion size slightly 😊 And remember there are many ways of measuring actual 'fat' loss apart from the scales 😊

Best wishes

Hi Helga

Having hit middle age (and beyond), I have found that I needed to make some changes to what I was eating. I've cut down on carbs and made sure that the ones I eat are high fibre and low GI, so rather than having cereal for breakfast I might have an omelette or some other protein.

Perhaps try experimenting with what you eat and see if it makes a difference? Counting calories works for some people, others may need to try something like the 5:2 diet.
