Heya. Im sorry youre feeling like this. Ive felt like this many times. Ive also got a lot of weight to lose and sometimes it feels overwhelming. Ive been a member for a month or two and i do feel better and more motivated than i think i ever have been, because of the manageble nhs eating plan and the forum. Ive lost 4lbs which is slow, but i will persevere!
Im starting to realise that when you cant carry on with a 'diet', its the diets fault not the persons. Diets fail, thats what they do. But the nhs plan is more about lifestyle changes that are achievable long term, and ive found this makes all the difference to my success, because i actually CAN do it.
Have faith in yourself, dont give up on yourself. ☺

Right now you are in the hardest place - at the point of starting to change and yet you've come here and as much as you feel you lack motivation, something motivated you to take this first step. so you have more motivation and power than you realise as the first step is always the hardest.
I know it can be daunting thinking of how far you have to go, so break your goal up into mini challenges. I am currently 15 St 2lbs and im desperate to be in the 14's as I can't remember ever being that before. That's keeping me focused right now and isn't a lot. After I reach that target, the success from it will help to push and motivate me further. If I just focused on my goal weight I'd feel so overwhelmed I'd hide in the corner with lots of chocolate.
Diets fail. When they fail you feel like you failed. Then you fail at the next diet and the next. Diets are rubbish. And they de-motivate you. Try the NHS plan, I've had a big read through of it and it sounds amazing (I'm currently doing Slimming world) and it looks easy and manageable and you'll get loads of support on here for it. Once you start to lose weight, you will naturally feel more motivated and like you can do it! Which you definitely can
I know exactly how you feel. It can feel very daunting when you want to lose weight and it can seem like a long path ahead, but if you approach it the right way it might not be as bad as you think. You may even be pleasantly surprised at how many delicious foods and meals you can enjoy and still lose weight. I had kind of given up on myself a bit and resigned myself to just being 'fat', but I came back from my summer holiday this year determined to make a change for the better. Soon after I found this forum.
Start by checking your BMI (body mass index) on the nhs site. Here is the link to it:
If you follow it through it will tell you your calorie allowance in order to lose weight. The old days of 1000 calories a day are long gone!
Have you checked out the pinned posts on here, to the right of the screen or at the bottom if you are on a mobile? You will find a post for newbies, plus lot's of useful information and fun challenges to join in with.
Very good advice there from KInbun. I need to lose at least 4 stone, but I only focus on 10lbs at a time. If you break it down into smaller amounts you feel great every time you reach your goal!
Hiya and welcome. I have just been reading the excellent advice given to you in the replies. I can't offer anything more other than "this is your lightbulb moment.". You came to find us so that means something has switched in your mind set. Because we don't diet, you can't revert back to old habits. Your new healthier methods of viewing food will be it, for good. You just need to get a few weeks under your belt, see some good news on the scales and it will spur you on, I promise you. Keep visiting the forum for motivation too. Good luck. Xx
Hi and Welcome to our forum, Firstly i would say dont look at this as a diet as diets are short-term, look at it as a lifestyle change, which can be done slowly at your own pace, we are all here because we are fed up and at some point lacked motivation, that is why we joined and why your here today.
Its difficult to explain the how! but different things work for different people, and i would say its defiantly a mental challenge to change all the things you know.. and turning the negatives into positives and not everyone will support you, or understand the why! just ignore and move on and use it as motivation to prove you can do it..
you may fall along the way, but its best not to beat yourself up about it, get up and dust yourself off, and start again dont dwell to much, and just know your triggers and downfalls, end of the day your human
I know how you feel, over the years I have tried many diets, initially they work but then I go into weeks of just stating the same which is when I give up. I'm a big girl and can put on so easily. This is my 6th week and I've lost 24lb, all I've done is listen to advice and changed my way of thinking towards food, I'm still having similar food to my family but it's smaller portions. Ive completely cut out fizzy drinks and snacking between meals. Ive a long way to go but I'm on the right path, I'm here if you need any advice X
