As a middle aged bloke with 4 kids, I've always battled with my weight. I used to stick to a strict diet when powerlifting weights in my late teens, now since giving this up, I still have the bulk, but it's no longer muscle!
I now have hypertension and recently got diagnosed with Rheumo Arthritis. Movement is now difficult in the morning, but eases off as the day goes on.
To add to the woes, a fall on holiday (I don't drink :)! ), means I've also damaged my Cruciate Ligament, so my knee now has limited movement.
All this means one thing - I need to focus on diet to reduce my weight and will get to exercise once illness and injuries are a bit better - I hope this site can help me reach my goals.... whatever they could be!

Oh dear, you are having a tough time of it at the moment! I hope that finding us will help turn things around for you
Have a look at the Pinned Posts section, to the right of your screen, (bottom if you're on a mobile) and read our Welcome Newbie post. It has a link to the NHS 12 week plan, which is a great place to start. It doesn't give a specific diet plan, but gives guidelines for healthy eating.
Consider signing up for any, or all of our challenges, as they're fun and motivating.
We also have a monday group weigh-in and if you click follow on my profile, you'll get a notification when I post it on monday. You can have a look at the latest thread in the events section, to the right of the home page.
Be active on the forum, as that's where we meet to exchange ideas and get our daily fix of inspiration and motivation
I would love to grow old disgracefully but like you, arthritis and weight were seriously hampering my lifestyle!! 😕 It's hard to party when just putting one foot in front of the other is difficult!! Lol 😂
Read the links moreless has suggested, work out your BMR and target calories, (often more than you might expect) and come on here to update us of your progress 😊 Exercise helps (I actually enjoy exercise now im slimmer and fitter!) but it's not essential for weight loss, more important that you get the movements right for healing your knee 😊 Walking swimming and cycling are my favourites, and dancing of course! 😊
Thank you IndigoBlue61 - Dancing is good, my main exercise is my Allotment and On-stage singing (rock band) at least once per weekend (this weekend at Edin-Fringe is gonna be a challenge :)!)
Have just put my meal plans in place and am gonna log everything that passes my lips, I think there will be a big impact by not reaching for crisps / choc at night but I also hope to get back to regimented exercise soon, I really need to!
Oooooh love the sound of the Rock Band! A perfect workout 😊🎤🎸❤️
I've missed Edinburgh festival for last couple of years due to (separate and unrelated) health issues 😕 our son lives there and we love it 😊 Have a fab concert, and enjoy the Fringe 😊 And have a good week, weighing and logging everything are the way to go 😊 Have you worked out a target calorie allowance? The first couple of weeks are the hardest 😊 To keep me off the booze I offer to be designated driver, makes me popular as well as slimmer! Lol 😊
Target Calorie allowance will be 2100 , I think my issue like a lot of people will be to eat to that target rather than reducing it. I've had a few tips from other posts to allow me to meet that with nuts / avacados / peanut butter etc. But I need to get a typical day-in-the-life logged before putting the main plan in place.
