Hi jw2007
Please don't panick you will be fine stick to your calories and go walking everyday and the weight will soon come off in time for your flight ,
Then you can enjoy your holiday
Be posertive and keep telling yourself you can do it and you will
Good luck xx
Good morning jw2007,
If you haven't already done so, take a look at the nhs 12 week plan (I know you are going on holiday in 5 weeks, but there is no reason why you can't start it today and start your focus on healthy eating and exercise now). You can check your healthy BMI rate on that website too and it will help advise you on how many calories you need to consume to lose weight.
Also download the free myfitnesspal ap and start to record the calories you consume.
I am sure that you will get a proper welcome from our moderator Lowcal soon and she will also tell you about the weigh in on Mondays and the various challenges you can join.
Keep coming on the forum to keep motivated. You can do it!!!
hi thankyou for your help yes will look at the nhs 12 plan its the excersise that iam failing on as I broke my leg back last year and its still not right
Hi jw2007,
Seuzan is right about d fitness pal it's a good app to use. I am also looking into d nhs 12 week stuff. Try getting one of the whey protein powders from Holland and Barrett,if u can stick to no more carbs after 7pm(my gp recommended dat)also people say cut out carbs, don't do that we need carbs for energy, what u should do instead is try d complex carbs like wholemeal bread instead of white etc. if u have a protein shake during d day u can have d second one in the evening, that should fill u up. Also try the green tea one cup in d morning and one in the evening, not to mention loads of water( u can get one of those fruit infusion bottles from primark, put fruit or lemon in the middle and keep filling it with water,dz will encourage u to drink more). Now to exercise, walking is good, planks are also good for the whole body particularly ur middle section. Wishing all the best. Remember stay positive.
Start with the calorie counting and then bit by bit look at what exercise you might be able to do. Go gently if you still need to heal your leg as that can take a while to mend and you don't want to do further damage to it. Slow and steady will get you there.... Take it carefully, there is no rush. x
Jw2007 I wish I could help but to be honest the only person that can do this is you. If the thought of your holiday and the fear of the plane seat belt doesn't inspire you to make the effort I don't know what will.
I don't know how much you weigh or how much you need to lose but your posting indicates quite a high figure. With that in mind I would suggest that if you really put your mind to it, follow a sensible, healthy low calorie diet for the next five weeks you could lose the best part of a stone. Build in a bit of exercise and good luck
Panic not... The seats on planes aren't too bad... I am 17 stones and my partner is much more... The main issue is the seat belt BUT simply ask the Steward for an extender which they will readily supply. I can generally just about manage without but with no slack whatsoever so I ask sometimes, especially on long haul. It can be a bit cosy if you're sat next to another big person so when and I were sat separately on a return flight from Canada we both hit lucky with skinny folk either side of ID and it was quite a comfortable journey. Don't feel self conscious about asking or having an extender... They dish them out regularly. We had a steward on an American Airlines flight who was ever so discreet, but generally they just dish em out a they whiz past you and most of your fellow passengers will be far too busy trying to settle themselves and sort themselves out to notice. Take care of your leg on the flight and don't forget to stretch your calf muscles every now and then and if you can, get up and have a little stretch walkabout. Have a great flight and have a great holiday!.
Ah bless you I know whenever I flew I worried about everything feeling so self conscious but I soon realised everyone is so busy & excited they don't notice anything. Look I know everyone bangs on about exercise & calorie counting, eating healthier choices and smaller portions which is the perfect combination. However any of those is going to make a difference and the more you can include the bigger difference so don't worry too much about the exercise part that will be a bonus to add once your leg has healed & you start finding what you love doing, best to try a few different things, I can't dance and didn't like aerobics but I love Zumba & Aqua Zumba. I see the exercise part not as a weight loser as I've exercised for ages & stayed overweight but I can feel the difference with it & weight loss to my fitness & energy levels and I'm sure you will too. Anyway sorry such a long comment! Look forward to your holiday & i am sure you can find motivation to lose a bit before you go as a taster of how to continue once you are back. It's no sprint it's a marathon but it'll be so worth it. See you around the finishing line.
Please don't worry. I have travelled extensively over the years and at me largest I was a size 32 . Now a 22 and I still can't say I am comfortable but I do not let it worry me or ruin the experience.
The seat belt still doesn't fit around me. At one point I vouched not to travel by air again until I fitted properly in the seats as an incentive but that is punishing myself which is the opposite of the message you need to be giving yourself. Accept where you are at the moment and be kind to yourself in every way possible and that includes not beating yourself up over this. Only when you start thinking like this will your body lose the weight it no longer needs.
When I board I very quietly ask a member of the crew for a seat belt extender at the first opportunity. This takes away any anxiety. Just be calm and confident and smile.
Oh and most importantly enjoy the holiday 😀
Hi jw2007,
I hope you managed to get back to sleep this morning - you were up and awake very early. I really hope you're feeling a bit better now, and that you've found all the really great replies to your post to be helpful in reassuring you about some things. I can't add much to what people have already said, except that I wondered if you've had a chance to read our Welcome Newbie post yet? It is very motivating and helpful, and it's in the Pinned posts area - top right-hand-side of the homepage.
Also, if you'd like to join our Monday weigh-in group, you would be very welcome - or any of the other Challenges in the Pinned posts area. The Monday weigh-in thread is always in the Events section (below the Pinned posts).
Wishing you a good weekend, and you've got 5 weeks till your holiday, so there's time to make some good progress before then. Good luck!
Lowcal
Please don't worry just make your mind up clear the fridge and cupboard of any unhealthy foods and log on to this forum every day I have tried to diet many many times in the past but failed to continue with the healthy eating plan .Since I started on Monday I've eaten loads using slimming world or hairy bikers reciepes I also use the app to record what I eat and swim two to three times a week because I cannot walk very far due to arthritis to date I have lost 6.5 lbs mostly fluid I know but it does spur you on to continue take the plunge and get started it will be well worth the effort thankyou to all those on this forum your posts are truly inspiring.
Hi there no need to worry you what when i was pregnant with my daughter i was really big i was a size 20 so i tried a fruit and veg diet i went down from a size 20 to size 12 give a try i am sure you will lose some weight by the time you go on holiday also drink plenty of water that will also help with your weight let me know how you get it would be great if i have helped someone with there weight.
please don't panic jw2007. that just makes it worse. if you will take a deep breath, write down what you eat and slim it down, walk and breathe, you will be fine. I worry about sitting on an airplane too, but I am not lucky enough to be going anywhere, lol. once you lose those first few pounds the confidence you have will come hurling back to you and you will then know you can do this like the rest of us know you can! chin up !!!
