Im new to the forum. I was wondering what keeps everyone motivated to lose weight? Ive tried SS,WW,SW and CC and loose interest after a few weeks. I just cant seem to stop eating rubbish. I plan on getting my head together and start again on Mon by cutting out all rubbish and exercising more. I just seem to get into a rut and it gets me down. Any advice on what works for you or keeps you going is greatly appriciated. X

Take a look at the Pinned posts section to the right of your screen (bottom if you're using a mobile), read the Welcome Newbie thread, then move through to the challenges, where we hope you'll find at least one that will appeal to you.
Move down to the Topics, to find a variety of threads, collated into specific topics for ease of access and we ask that you also 'file' your own threads, so that others won't miss your important news.
Take a look at the 12 week plan, as a lot of people have been successful with it, making sure to enter your details into the BMI calculator, to get a calorie allowance tailored to your personal requirements. Don't forget to take your starting measurements and a 'before' picture, as they can be very motivating on days that the scales refuse to co-operate.
We run daily weigh-in's and you'd be very welcome to join us. The threads can always be found in the Events section, to the right of the home page, bottom on a mobile.
We've found that to get the best out of this community, we need to be active on the forum, as it's where we exchange information, get motivation and inspiration and make friends. We hope that you'll join us here, regularly, too.
It's only left for me to wish you well on your journey
Hi Beastly, I doubt any one individual will give you the same answer, however, one thing that has helped me remain motivated is being here on this forum with all the friendly, helpful people here. They are people that know a lot, give of themselves and sympathise when things don't go so well for you.
Do take the time to absorb all the information that moreless has provided. There is so much there that could help you.
Hi Beastly and welcome. The thing that keeps me motivated is this forum. As Tiggerr has said there are lots of people on here with a wealth of knowledge that they give freely. People are very generous with their support and nobody judges. We are all 'virtual friends' that look out for each other. The administrators give wonderful advice and support. All you have to do is read all the information and ask questions and post when your struggling and you will get loads of support. Good luck
I agree with lucigret and Tiggerr this forum is great. Those 2 are among the most active people on here who always have a kind, wise word and a listening ear. Humour on here works too! What also keeps me going is buying smaller clothes and being able to run up the stairs. I don't get tired so much and I can zip around easily. It isn't easy and I still have a long way to go but small steps seem to work with mini goals. I like the badges on here. Good luck.
Hi there Beastly hope you are doing well today. The group forum members are 1st. Class So hope you get all the support that you need. Good luck with your journey. George 56
I hope so but I will be happy to be the same ? Find out tomorrow. I'm moving about more. I'm still on the painkillers. How are you doing? I'm on the mobile as my lovely Wife is hanging on to the iPad!!!!☺️
I make my weight loss journey an adventure with food. I don't like everything I try but it is fun. I think it is also a bit of a hobby, organising menus, trying new foods etc.
Whatever you do has to be sustainable Beastly so perhaps don't cut everything out at once. also keep coming on the forum and join in the conversations.
What a great topic to discuss. I agree with lucigret and George56 and others. This forum really helps. What I particularly like is that I just take one day at a time and I find it really is helping me. I've been on WW and SW and both times I lost weight and then quickly gained again. But for some reasons with the help of this forum and the tracker on the 12 week plan I'm finding I'm making real life changes. Whereas SW and WW felt like a diet this doesn't feel like that at all.
My motivation came from my dietician telling me 3yrs ago that a healthy waist line is 30inches and that anything over that leaves you at risk from all sorts of diseases. So having 2 kids this was my motivation to stay around as long as possible for them and reduce any risk factors I could. That was the start of my 5.2 diet and in the 1st year I lost 6kg with only effectively changing my diet 2 days a week. However, with no wedding to keep me motivated the 2nd year I gained again even with only 500 calories 2 days a week. So this year I'm combining it with the NHS 12 weeks plan and by week 11 I've lost almost 6kg. I'm finally coming to grips with making healthy options and using the 12week plan has allowed me to see visually when the calories and exercise work. As well as when I've gone too far and started holding onto weight because my body thinks it's starving. I couldn't recommend this plan or my fitness Pal enough they've both made my journey so much easier. I'm finally at a place where I never thought I could be again and am the same weight I was when I was 15 and swimming every day. So onwards and downwards to a healthy BMI and a 30 inch waist. Anyone can do this you just need to find what motivates you as only you can make it work although the support on here does really help. Try the horizon website test to see what diet works for you. I was a 'constant craver' which is why the 5.2 was recommended to me and just don't give up. We all have ups and downs that's the nature of the beast but don't let it beat you. Good luck.
Thanks for the reference to the Horizon website jonuts2000 as I hadn't seen it, and it has a load of really interesting stuff on it 👍
Well you have definitely found the best place for help, motivation, support and tips. This forum is amazing, I can't stick to any diet but I'm sticking to a healthier lifestyle with a totally different mind set thanks to the wonderful people on here, I can't praise them enough.
Hi beastly😃 I think as everyone has rightly said the support on here is phenomenal. I too have tried all the diets but I think ultimately my motivation to continue them has always waned as I felt like I was trying to fit their mould rather than a plan being specifically for me which is what I do now.
Keeping motivation was also my downfall but I now read a list of reasons why I'm doing this every morning and I fill in a daily task sheet from a free journal I downloaded on a website called 100 days challenge. It works for me but everyone has their own motivators and if you keep exploring you will find your own unique recipe for success.
I wish you the very best in your planning over the weekend and remember that whatever you're doing to progress forward- its more than the person on the sofa unhappily stuffing themselves silly 😀
Maybe from zero to hero is too much to ask. Cut out all rubbish? Excercise more? Maybe 2 small sustainable steps are more achievable, 1 food related, 1 excercise related i.e. No soda this week and I will excercise twice this week. Once you've cracked this add another two. Trying to do too much leads to 'xxxx it ' moments, it's either perfect or nothing so one deviation catapults us into quit mode. The journey may be longer this way, but mire fun, less stressful and easy to sustain for life. How much motivation do you need to make small changes? I'm sure you have enough for that 🙂
Thank you marie2068. This makes more sense to me. I think that is where i am going wrong. Changing too much too quickly. Will slow it down and make small changes that i can stick to 😊xx
Hi and welcome to this lovely community of supportive people, just thinking about motivation and agree with lots of other posts on here. Being fitter, having more energy, being able to lie down without getting heartburn!!!
Also a big motivator for me is the weekly weigh in, just feeling part of a group who are encouraging and praise every pound lost helps me enormously. X
