This article is about the food industry in the states and it's jaw dropping. I warn you you need a pretty strong stomach to read it.
Could this be true in Europe or is it ... - Weight Loss Support
Could this be true in Europe or is it just American?
This is why I am a vegetarian. It's probably similar state of affairs in this country.
It probably is true in Europe, sadly. I began to watch documentaries on food and food production last December and Since then, have been vegan!
Without a doubt.
All of this is propelled by the need for profit and that need is no less prevalent in Europe than it is in America or Australia, especially with the globalised companies that run our food supply.
Well, from my experience restaurants have to be really careful with labelling, and any false hood would land them in serious trouble. And I'm also sure found labelling had to be accurate too, think of the media field day when inaccuracies are discovered. However, food labelling can be very misleading and needs careful attention. At the end of the day, the less processed the food we eat the better 😊
what is really nasty also, is to think of all the laws about by catch and quotas so fishermen are throwing good fish away because they're not allowed to land it. All wrong
Yeah I guess profit runs the food and distribution industry here too. What I was wondering are the regulations as lax here ? Do the regulators have any teeth? I had the faint idea that Europe was stricter than that.
It's certainly a scare story! The regulations in the US are much lower than in the UK and EU, due to the lobbying of the food industry, but if someone is determined to carry out a fraud it may be difficult to catch them. This is why it's so important not to cut food inspectors!
I live in the middle of an agricultural community, so I know where my food is coming from, and how it has been treated. Unusually I even know where the local cows are pastured and I am happy to eat them. It's expensive meat and so it should be.
It may not be so easy for someone who lives in a city to find this out, but it is not impossible. It's really important to understand food production, seasonality, labelling etc. If you are concerned about keeping yourself in good health, it's vital!
In Britain the Food Standards Agency regularly samples food to check it's quality & labelling but I still try to only eat meat & fish from sources I know.
Hm yes. Anyone remember the horseburgers?
